Time to leave the Max for something else.....

Well today I saw a lady who wants to sell her 1990 Chrysler LeBaron GTS Turbobecause it's taking up garage space. She also had a 1996 Ford T-bird and I was able to pick both of them up for $700!!!

The T-bird just needs to get an oil change and new exhaust while my car (the LeBaron GTS Turbo) just needs a new alternator belt. The T-bird is going to my brother. While I get some boost

Chrysler LeBaron GTS Turbo

This car has 110K miles on the dash. The car spits out 179hp but once I change the exhaust and get a boost controller I can do up to about 220hp stock (excluding exhaust)!!! These cars are known to do mid to high 14's on an autotrajic tranny bone stock (meaning no aftermarket exhaust and controllers) Personally with me being 17 and all this is going to be my 4 banger project and possibly next summer I should be a proud owner of a VQ as my V6 project. I am going to own a maxima within the next 24 months so right now I'm taking a maxima vacation. The turbo's are T3's but don't hold me for it.

I'm leaving my current maxima becuase it was in the accident, the tranny is ice skating, the rear suspension is going, and the paint job was awful. I decided that over $2000 to spend in a nearly 15 year old car is too much and I still won't know how long the tranny will last. I'm about to go to College in SC and I will need a dependable car, not a car that I will have to guess what's wrong. Plus my allowance won't cover it But look on the bright side. I didn't spend heavy money into modding it out.

I am still going to be part of the board b/c I'm getting a new max next summer and it's always fun to have a general knowledge of the best car made today - just 10-16 years ago. I still think third gens are the best.

A Chrylser LeBaron GTS, those are nice. I almost got that as my first car, I like the hatch back sport sedan. The ride is not so good though, very rough. Good luck with your new ride.

I personally wouldn't consider a 14 year old Chrysler product with 110k miles dependable, but it sounds like you got a very good deal on the two cars. It should get you by until you can afford another Max.

All just to have a turbo, I'd stick with the Max. Depends on what you want I guess.

Well just for a little update. I did buy the T-bird but didn't get the LeBaron because the engine is knocking horribly and the manifold is cracked. So I am looking at a few 240sx's for sale.

I think the Maxima is a MUCH better built car than a lebaron.

I mean a chrysler labaron? ...ouch.

OK I get the point. The car was sort of a downstep but I am not going to be it's next owner. I am looking at a 240sx. Wish me luck.

The tbird is now my brother's. I'm in the search for a 240sx. I reallyt wanted another nissan anyway. The reason why I was going to get the Lebaron was because of the overheating which I heard can cause the manifold to crack as it did and the engine needed to be rebuilt. I guess I'll have to go carless for a few.

I know I've seen you inquiring about 240's on some site. Why didn't you get one?

I also agree, it's just not worth wasting money on a 6+ year old car. The EVAP is the 1st major expense, then comes the shaking in the front end, and next the side airbags. Those three things add up to more than 2,000 to get corrected. That's why when a 98 fully loaded Max is advertised at $5400, it's really no bargain at all. It'll be $7400 by the time the repairs are done, which really puts it into another category for 98's. My recommendation is to absolutely make sure the previous owner performed the repairs--if they have no dealer repair bills to substantiate it, I'd offer only $3400 for a 98 fully loaded Maxima. If you're the original owner, then just drive it into the ground. This was an expensive car to operate cost per mile in retrospect, but we live and learn!

what engines in the bird? The nice thing about it is you can make money off it.
