My transmission has been acting up lately. Here is a summary of my problems:
1. Around Christmas I noticed my transmission starting to shift into 2nd gear way too early. This bothered me but I thought I was just crazy.
2. Then not too long after that my 2-3 shift started getting sluggish. Many times I can even fell the car completely stop accelerating during the 2-3 shift. Otherwise is is just slow and the RPM's gradually fall instead of the usual shift.
3. Every now and then the car will slip just a bit when I start from a stop. I thought this was wheel spin the first few times but it is obviously something in the tranny. This is rare and only happens 4-5 times a week.
There are also the occasional just strange shifts but there is nothing really too bad otherwise. I just changed the tranny fluid to Mobil 1 synthetic (old fluid was whatever synthetic Jiffy Lube uses). The problem did not get noticeably worse after the fluid change. WTF is wrong with my tranny and what can I do to fix it? I have had suggestions of a bad transmission computer or a bad valve body. I am about to buy a new computer but could that possibly be the problem causing slipping from a start? Please help as I don't want my tranny to die on me in the middle of nowhere!

How many miles are on the car?
Sounds like VB or just a worn out tranny.

Its got almost 97k on it but they were hard miles many of which were on hilly terrain. I guess I am looking into my options now. Anyone know about how much a 5 speed swap costs in parts and then about how much labor is? I am going to look and see if that is worth doing when this one dies.

If you want a 5 speed swap whats going to kill you is finding the tranny itself. Parts are somewhat scarce, but if you look hard and are determined you can get it. Theres a car here in south atl that has tranny and everything. I don t know if they still have the stuff or not.
