2004 Gas prices

i got an email a while back about 2004 gas prices saying that by summer time, gas prices will be well over $2 and in some states close to $3. at the time, i thought the email was BS but if you look around now, there are articles all over the internet & in the media about prices soaring out of control due to OPEC's reduced oil production. as far as gas prices go, OPEC is owning the US. im interested to see what will come of this situation with the upcoming presidential elections. maybe Kerry can shake things up a bit. i also wouldn't doubt it if gas prices drop right before elections... to boost the Bush campaign.

the email i got stated that if enough ppl stop buying gas from the major sellers in the US (mobil, exxon, ammoco, etc) this would reduce demand on the overall market & in turn bring gas prices back down. theoretically, i suppose this is possible but it would need mass cooperative effort.

i live in orlando FL and im used to paying $1.89 - mid 1.90s for 93octane. the other day, i drove by a mobil & i couldn't believe seeing $2.07 for 93 .

here's one interesting article i found about this sh*t...

Reports say it gonna get higher by Memorial Day too. It's pretty outrageous...but to put it into something that's a tad bit easier to swallow: Europe on average pays about $5 per liter for fuel there....and that isn't even a gallon. So in a sense, if you think your paying a lot for gas....there is probably someone paying even more.

I believe that the only way people will stop buying gas is when they can no longer afford it. Since supply and demand has a lot to with prices, the prices would drop slowly when the demand dropped. Once people start back to their old buying frenzy, the prices would go right back to the previous level if not higher. I live in NW Florida and I will be paying at least $2.04 for Chevron 93 the next time I fill up. I filled up in Pascagoula, MS Saturday on my way to Gulfport, MS at Chevron for $1.99. I know that it will keep climbing because the summer travel period begins at the end of this month.

Sorry to tell you but Kerry won't do **** with gas prices, he can't. Wait til a month or two before the elections, people are saying Bush will lower the prices by $.50 to win the election. Since he's a good buddy with the Saudis he can get it done, he can just tell them to increase production and bam. Of course as soon as he wins the prices will go up again. Sad thing is that we've had the technology to eliminate the need for gsoline for over a decade but our ***** presidents don't want to reveal them cause that would make the Saudis useless to us.

Fox news showed some Chevron station in Cali selling premium @ 3.13/gal.

As for Kerry implementing presidential policies to get gas prices lowered, its never gonna happen. He's a HUGE proponent of public transportation. Typical leftist.

Like I said, Bush CAN get it done but let's hope he doesn't get elected again. The economy is on the rise and we don't need the moron to mess it up again. Like I said pussies.

The secret to lower gas prices is to reduce usage. Part of the reason for the cheap gas days we loved during the nineties was that that was the time when the american fleet was most fuel effecient. So less driving, or more fuel eff. cars.

It would help if america stopped their love affair with 5mpg SUV's driving 800 miles a week. Seems more then 1/2 the vehicles on the road are Suburbans with 1 person driving them. Whats the need? I personally wouldnt want anything bigger than a Maxima, i'd like to get a 2 door quite often even. Dont understand the huge SUV craze.

IMO, Hybrid Assist and/or VCM (variable cylinder mgmt) technology will go a long way towards reducing gas useage. I think the upcoming Accord V6 is supposed to have VCM.

But you're right bigdo! The SUV craze has a significant affect on the price of gas; which is probably why Toyota is going Hybrid on the RX330.

$.02

Yup fuel efficient vehicles seem to be the new thing for 2004. i heard something about the new chrysler 300c having "multi displacement technology (MDS)" allowing the hemi v8 to use only 4cyl under lower throttle diving but the full 8cyl to jump in under higher throttle. i assume that performance is not compromised too much b/c the hemi kicks out a nice 340hp. here comes another performance family sedan guys

The BP by my house was 2.39 for 93 octane yesterday, today 2.50. About that 300c hemi, it uses 4cyl during highway driving above a certain speed I believe.
