Hi there! I have got 95se and oil pressure lamp after startup goes off then blinks ones and then goes off completely.
If I don't drive much and turn the engine off next time I start it - oil pressure lamp goes off without blinking.
In both cases there are some engine noise for a second or so. I changed oil recently (Mobil 1 synthetic 15w-50 ). Also when engine is cold it is kind of noisy during accelerations. Is there something to worry about?
Thanks in advance.
Alex.

Why are you using an oil of such a high viscosity? Did the car always do this? (prior to changing to synthetic) Have you always used this weight oil? With higher viscosity oil it takes longer for oil pressure to come up.

Before I used 10w-30 mineral Castrol with the same blinking, then changed to 10w-30 synthetic, blink became longer, so I changed to 15w-50 synthetic. This noise during startup sounds like a chain, no wonder - tensioner is oil pressure driven. Now thinking if I should replace it with mineral 20w-50 or what? Have you got any experience or other knowledge about oil additives like Duralube and others?

Regards.
Alex.

Perhaps you should try using lower viscosity oil, as brubenstein brought up. I use 5w-30 Mobil 1 synthetic.

What oil filter are you using? If it's one with a poor/non-existent anti-drainback valve, the oil drains out of the engine back into the pan. This results in increased noise right after startup, and it takes longer for the oil pressure to develop. Also how many miles on the car, and does it burn any oil? Any signs of sludge in the engine? If there are, the oil pickup could be partially blocked.

TECHNICAL BULLETIN ITB91-039

INFINITI MOTOR OIL VISCOSITY

APPLIED MODELS: ALL INFINITI MODELS, ALL YEARS

SERVICE INFORMATION:

Some drivers may report driveability problems or reduced fuel economy after an oil change. Investigations have found that many dealers are using higher viscosity oil than is recommended for the ambient temperature range.

The use of high viscosity oil may cause:

1. Low rough idle for a few minutes after starting a cold engine, usually the first start in the morning.

2. Reduced fuel economy.

3. Rattle noise in the valve train or timing chain tensioner(s) and possibly mechanical damage.

Please use the PREFERRED OIL for each model unless a lower or higher ambient temperature range justifies the use of the alternative oil viscosity shown in the charts below.

MODEL PREFERRED OIL TEMPERATURE RANGE

Q45 10W-30 above Zero~F
M30 5W-30 ALL
G20 5W-30 ALL

I use Nissan filter, car has 90000 miles on it and does not burn oil. Haven't seen any signs of sludge. My guess is that oil drains back to the oil pan somehow but not from the filter because I tried a few good ones. May be somewhere before the oil pump, so oil pressure lamp goes off first and then some air comes in the pump and lamp goes on for a moment and then comes the oil and pressure builds up again. And if I use 10w-30 synthetic this moment gets longer. Guess I should remove the oil pan and have a look at the oil pickup tube.

Alex, I too was going to suggest that you pull the oil pan and clean up the oil pickup screen. There may be some carbon chunks that are clogging it. When I did it on former car, the flashing light disappeared completely. I wouldn't put any oil heavier than 10W-30, btw.
