this is what keven told me:
If you do think you've found a unit, make
sure to have the place confirm it's a VLSD unit by either matching the
VIN# of the donor car (I was told VLSD-equipped Maximas have a "Z" in
the Vin# somewhere - ??) or by matching the tranny code (VLSD 5spd
trannies are R5F50V and open-diff 5spds are R5F50A).

looking at the service manual and
it doesn't show any id in the vin BUT on the top of the tranny housing (front side) there s/b a M/T
rs5f50v = viscous
rs5f50a = open
it should also be on the vehicle id plate but i think u said thats unavail.

conversion will cost between 1k-1.5k in parts. Depending on where you get your stuff. My friend's shop charges 2k in labor only for the conversion. After we do mines we can get a good idea how involved it is and we can get an estimated price for you....
