Strange auto tranny problem! 2000 GXE
Has anyone ever had a problem with their 5th gen Max being stuck in "Drive"? I was on a recent trip in the US when I stopped for a break. The car had been running about 2 hours and was shifting normally. When I restarted the car about 20 min. later, I realized that it was stuck in Drive. It wouldn't shift into 1, 2 or OD. I even tried shifting up and down into all gears while driving, but it wouldn't move out of Drive. I drove about half an hour this way and stopped for gas and took a look under the hood, checked the ATF, everything looked ok. I started the car and drove off and the car started shifting normally again!
Any ideas?! I phoned a Nissan dealer and they told me that unless the car was showing the problem right then, they wouldn't be able to find anything. I thought some kind of code might show up.
BTW, the car has about 55,000 miles on it and the transmission fluid has been changed twice in the last 5K with Amsoil synthetic - mostly to flush out all regular ATF.

Auto tranny problem cont'd!
Just to clarify - physically I could move the shift lever through all the gear positions, but the tranny wouldn't shift from 1 to 2 to D and then OD. It remained stuck in Drive.
