Maxima.... A keeper???
Who considerers their Maxima a keeper. A car that they plan on keeping as long as they possibly can, with no plans of replacing it?
As soon as I get enough money, I plan on upgrading. I think that cars that are keepers are M3, S4, AMG, Any Porsche except the Boxster, ect..

I just s/c'd my car over the winter, it has 95k miles on it now and a brand new clutch/lightweight flywheel, bbk, all boltons, getting JIC's eventually this summer. No point in selling it, because its not worth what I've even put into it, but its reliable and when the VQ can't take it anymore I'm just gonna drop a fresh one in ;-)
DailyDriver for life...
M3 on the weekends ;-)

I bought my wife a 96 SE 5 speed to replace her 91 SE 5 speed. All intentions were to sell the 91 and pay off my 97 Chevy truck. After driving the 91 for the last month I decided to park the truck and drive the 91 until it dies. Any bets on replacing the truck, or the max first.

Definitely a keeper - who wants to get screwed by Nissan's resale?
On a more postive note, the Maxima has always been one of the best bargains around - powerful, comfortable, attractive, reliable, and affordable.

I'm not really sure at this point but I'm thinking of keeping my Max for a few more years and when I graduate from college and hopefully get a decent job I'll keep the max as a reliable daily driver which will allow me to get whatever I want without having to worry about practically. Maybe a 350Z or G35 coupe

My plan was to keep the Max as a daily driver, add a new mod everytime I start to get bored with it and then maybe get a RX7 or a Porsche 944 as a weekend/track car.
But lately, I've been looking really hard at the Audi S4.... That would be a car I would keep forever.

I'm going to keep my Maxima for years as I've only got 53,000 miles on it and its like new. What truly amazes me is how cheap used ones go for in the US. Factoring in the exchange rate, they cost more in Canada, but I strongly suspect that most of them are considerably lower mileage here.
My other car is a 1985 Mazda RX7 GSL-SE with 115,000 miles on it. It runs like a top. I bought it 7 years ago from a young woman who inherited it from her mother. She put in a new clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing just before I bought it (35,000 miles ago) and I stole it from her for C$3,500 with reasonably good tires. Its my commuter car, go to Whistler car, foul weather car and loves to zip in and out of traffic!

IMO there are three types of KEEPERS.
1. Big dog cars you've been waiting to own or something in close proximity to it.
2. A daily driver that makes no since to get rid of and is fun to drive.
3. A P.O.S. that's reliable and cheap to maintain.
The Maxima can fit into any of these or a mixture of them. Right now mine is definately a 2. But add boost and run low 13s it becomes #1. Regardless it's a keeper.

Absolutely a keeper. Mine's gonna be a family heirloom. The payments I'm suffering to make for 5 years? I've waited over a year to get it, although got it earlier than I planned. (Had an '88 Century for 7 years that I wanted to keep as a beater. Tired of investing $ that is now going to my Max. Giving the Buick to my sister. Maybe I'll buy it back down the road.)
I already ordered enough Nissan oil filters to last 10 years. Once I have $$ again, I'll order the cabin filters, sparkies, and what else to maintain.
I plan on being the first and only owner of this beauty, except for decendants.
1400 miles down, 500,000+ to go.

For me yeah. I've got a 2000 and a 2.5 month old (to me) 97. Both cars are under 100k miles and drive nicely. They're reliable, powerful, and decently large. Considering that we're now starting a family I will not have money to throw into frivolous things like a car upgrade unless we somehow come into cash in an unexpected way, so I have to be happy with these two cars. Thankfully, I am The 97 replaced a 180k sentra, so I'm not opposed at all to driving a car with lots of miles on it.

Anyone who buys a Maxima and doesn't keep it is wasting big money. Due to the steep depreciation, the Maxima is not cheap to drive--if you dump it in less than 4 yrs from new, then why didn't you lease a nicer car in the first place? I've seen people state the opposite on this forum, they leased the Maxima and then want to buy out the lease. Lease = rent, the reason why some nice cars aren't that much more to lease is their high residual value.
Tossing around cars like M3, S4, please. A brand-new 325i with 174 ft-lbs of torque costs over $800/mo. to buy. An M3 is around $850/mo. to lease. What's this talk about as soon as I get enough money? Most people seem to gloss over the time value of money, so from a common sense standpoint, assuming a 325i is 35 grand, you put 20% down, finance 36 mos. at 5.6%. Payment is $846/mo. The only way to say that's not a lot of money is to have a job that pays pretty well. An M3 is about $1480/mo.
I'd love a 2 yr. old 6-spd not SMG (seems about as hard to find as a 6-spd touring 350) E46 M3 too, but I digress....

Of course I'm keeping mine for as long as possible. At least another 7+ years. I mean, I am sure I will get another car at some point when I get married, but I will definitely keep my max. I wish my '96 was still alive, it would have been nice to have 2 maxes, new and old, in the driveway and garage at once.

With Two Paint Jobs, 3 sets of wheels, Projector retrofited Headlights, Rebuilt tranny, new stearing pump, new AC condensor, Kybs, ebach springs....etc...etc...oh and one major accident.
There is no way I'm selling her.
She is one of a kind, and the first car I ever brought.
We are going to the grave together for ever and ever.
When the time comes Jeff from Maximumtunning will give the Eulogy and I will be lowered along with the car into the ground.
A fitting end...don't you think?

She's a keeper. I have never had any engine problems, not type of oil leak, or other notorious problems. I just pass the 230k mark today.
She's gonna see some boost in the near future, stay tuned to turd TV!!!

Actually, what your input means practically speaking, is that since my car has 93k right now (98 SE), if I buy an impractical car that is garaged most of the time and taken out in good weather, then the 98 Max can hang in there for quite a while. SWEET!!
