$4,000 for a daily driver
get a nice VE then spend some money on some bushings and other stuff (maybe ball joints/tie rod ends) just stuff to stiffen up the steering/suspension to make it like new again. You'll get loads of trouble free miles, plus the interior is roomy

I got my VE for $1400 with 125k needed some work, but that was because of abuse on the previous owners part. I've got about $3300 into it now, but a majority of that is from mods
i got another 4th gen last week 3900$, 5speed, black/black ltr and climate from the org, its on my homepage, but i looked pretty hard, that sthe best deal i found, just gotta be patient
I picked up my 1992 (3rd Gen) 2 years back for $4K. Fully loaded to boot.
If you just want a beater car, go for an automatic 3rd Gen VG engine car. This would be the 1989-1994 GXE trim Maximas. The 1989-1991 SE trim Maximas also have the VG engine, but I don't believe you will find one in automatic.
The Nissan engines are known for great reliability & durability. The only major thing that would need to be done is the 60K mile timing belt and that's about it. And chances are, you should be able to score one (depending on condition) anywhere from $1K-$4K based on your location.

I did a quick autotrader search with the zip listed in your profile. Doesn't look like there's much in your area as far as Maxima's. Hope this helps you.
95 Maxima Looks to be a GLE. $1,900 295 miles away
96 Maxima pimped out with tv's $3,500 274 miles away
95 Maxima my guess would be a GXE. If it was a GLE it would say it had leather. Also no foglights so that means it's not a SE. $4,495 218 miles away
95 Maxima SE $4,500 218 miles away
96 Maxima SE Looks like a 97 but the picture is poor $4,500 218 miles away

Sometimes I see some decent cars on eBay for good prices. But I wouldn't buy one unless the owner let me check it out before.

They are OK cars. I have always wanted a Maxima though.
