question.... i finally got my court date schedule in the mail. my initial plan of course was to postpone the date as many times as i could b4 i went in to see the magisrate. however, this is written in one of the many paragrahs in back:

""Date scheduled for your motor vehicle citation is a firm date. with the exception of an emergency situation, continuances will not be granted. emergency request for a continuance must be supported by written documentation submitted prior to court date""

but i heard that the best way to get out EASY is to postpone the date and pray the officer doesnt show. it doesnt always work but its a sure win if he doesnt make it. ok so ill write them a letter and make up sumthin... any of you guys been in this situation.... anyone have any valid excuse that i could i use to get out of the current schedueld date. p.s.. its coming up soon and need to act fast.

call the prosecutor and say its a very important issue that you would rather not discuss and you were requesting to have that date postponed.

 

I would think that the vague 'family emergency' would usually work well. Of course, they may ask you to be more specific, in which case you would have to make something up that sounds realistic.

Are you still in school, maybe? There are a huge number of reasons why you couldn't make it in that case (big project, major exam, etc.) since I doubt that they would deny an educational reason. If not, maybe some vague "work emergency"? Whatever you use, you will want to try and make the reason semi-important, yet not able to be easily documented. For instance, if you use family death or illness, they could try and ask for proof from a doctor, and then you'll be worse off than if you just showed up, since they caught you in the lie.
