Hi, I'm MiniMaxx and I'm a Maxaholic
Help, I've fallen for the 2002/2003 Nissan Maxima! I really like the look and the fact that i have a certain Max fanatic for a BF just adds to the brainwashed feeling. I'm not very familiar with the mechanics and technicalities of cars, so i was hoping someone can enlighten me as to the upside of owning a maxima as far as performance goes. Any thoughts on the best gen would also be noted....provided there's no riot

I may be biased, but I love the look of my '03 Titanium Edition SE. Overall, I really prefer the 5th gen (especially the 5.5 gens). Like many others, I just can't get used to the newer 6th gen Maxes, since they just don't have the Maxima look or feel to me anymore.
And no, Gooey, check out MiniMaxx's custom description under her nickname. I am guessing that the she got a special description with only 5 posts because her bf is SprintMax, who happens to run this whole .org show. Am I right?

Perhaps the reason many feel that the 02 & 03 are your best choice is that if you review the HP ratings you will see that there is a significant improvement from 00&01 to 02&03.
I drove both 00 & 03 and there was a noticable diff in acceleration.

ahhh now we getting somewhere. i like the sound of that
i'm a bit uneasy about big cars. i'm thinking reliable and easy to deal with when it's not. Question--> is the "generation" lingo a Nissan Maxima thing or a maxima.org thing? just curious

generation lingo is an all make thing....the original car is 1st gen, then the next is 2nd, like a baby...more like offspring.
anywho get a 03 Altima SE! lil smaller on the outside, lil bigger on the inside, and the same sweet 3.5l VQ under the hood.
My vote for a max is either 92-94 SE, 97, 02-03. But them damn station wagons are soo PIMP!

From my experience, 4th gens are a very reliable car. Mines done 264k km's (164k miles) and not one thing has failed on it yet apart from the starter motor. It's also a very economic car for it's size, I get 7.9L/100km (29.7mpg) which includes about 60% highway driving, 40% city.
If you're into Luxury but want the Maxima performance (well, close to it
) look at the Infiniti I30/I35
You'd still have a Maxima, it just wouldn't be a US Maxima

If you want more info, definitely check out the 5th Gen forum for the info on TSBs and mods for that particular vehicle.
The only thing about the 5.5 is the paint. As soon as you get that car, make sure you get a clear bra installed on it ASAP. The paint on the 5.5 is fragile and it will chip very easily.
