Replacing rear oxygen senor with resistors, like the knock sensor resistor mod.
Replacing rear oxygen senor with resistors, like the knock sensor resistor mod.
My rear o2 sensor has died on me and I dont have the money right now to replace it. My friend was saying on his forums (DSMtuners.com) you can replace it with resistors, like we do with the knock sensors here. I am wondering if this would be possible with our rear o2 sensor? I mean the rear o2 sensor only detects whether the cat is working or not correct. So by using resistors we would just be tricking the computer into thinking it is working. Any ideas or any experience with this would be very helpful and greatly appreciated.

Resistors will not work, the ecu must sense a varying voltage thats why a o2 simulator must be used.
I got mine from the place sloppymax is showing, easy hookup and no lights since installation about 3 months ago.

to make things clear, the o2 sim will work for every year max right?
Because I had a 97 auto I converted to 5speed so im using a 95 ecu which is why im throwing the rear o2 code. Hope this will fix that, right?

o2 sim will work for all Max's. Not exactly sure on the 5 spd conversion though why its throwing the code because I am not familiar with it. However get the dual output regardless so you can put it on a 5th gen later if you ever go that route. I believe its the same price anyway.
Pretty simple hookup, the only thing I don't really like is that you have to leave the o2 sensors electrically connected so that the ecu doesn't sense that the heaters are not there. So you have to find some place to stick the sensor (s) so they don't melt any wiring etc. Mine is under the plastic valve cover beside the coils.
