4th and 5th Gens IAT question?,,,,,,,
Is your IAT (Intake Air Temp) sensor located before the MAF or after? It does not really matter where it is, just that it is not part of the MAF itself. If it is a seperate unit, then my next question is; have you done htis before.....?......?...
Mustang and Comaro guys do this as a way to get a good dial in at the track or as a little edge on the street. It is cheaper than buying an ECU upgrade and easy as 1-2-3.
I'm talking about tricking your computer by adding a resistor to your IAT sensor.
Basically a 100kOHM 1/2 watt resistor tells your ECU that it is 40 degrees incoming air temp. And your ECU adds timing and fuel to compensate. The FORD ECUs add 3degrees of timing and additional fuel to compensate. I bet a $1 that the NISSAN would too.
Here is how it works...
unplug your IAT sensor at the harness, bend the 100kOHM 1/2 watt resistor in a U shape. push the resistor into the female clips in the IAT harness. the wire side. not the resistor side. Then start the car, and you should notice a LONGER WARM UP PERIOD.
I did this at the track with and with out the resistor, and I basically picked up 1.2mph and .2 tenths on average with the resistor. Needless to say.. your ECU will learn the trick. The mustangs seem to learn it after about 6 startups.
the resistors can be bought at radio shack for about 60 cents, they come in a 5 pack.
HAVE FUN.
