final drive ratio.

Hello All,

in the quest for expanding my general car knoledge I am wondering what is final drive ratio? I know what gear ratios are and understand what the gear ratio number represent for each gear ( 3.14 : 1 st gear etc) but I dont know what final drive is.

can any one explain this for me?

It's the ratio that the the tranny gears get "multiplied" by...

Think of it as a "rear differential gear" for our FWD.
