Engine swapped - starting issue

We already swapped cranshaft pos. sensors, camshaft pos. sensors, new starter - battery has charge - grounds are good.... Fuel is flowing, but I've got no spark from the coils. Any suggestions? I was planning on checking the coolant temp sensor tonight after work... thanks for the help

you have no spark at all? or spark in some cylinders?

when you swapped the motor, did you or anyone else touch the timing chain? if your chain is off by even 1 link, it could cause a no spark condition.

we didnt touch the timing chain - no spark in all cylinders - there is a slapping noise - not metal on metal, coming from the timing chain area it seems like.... Almost like if the motor has been sitting for some time without being started.... I think that is just because it was in a junkyard for a while.... thx

the slapping noise should go away once you start the engine and get oil pressure to the tensioner. unless your chain is broken and you hear the chain slapping on stuff? mm that wouldnt be good..maybe the junkyard took apart this motor before?
anyways, Seems like its possible the timing chain is off a link. id prolly check that after ive tried all the easier and more obvious stuff.
btw, coolant sensor wont cause a no spark condition.

crap... just make sure that both crank position cylinder sensors (ie, the one under the oil filter, and the one that sits between the tranny and the bell housing) are connected, bolted and tested.
Then check and make sure the cam position sensor (above the belt tensioner) is tight.

Good luck bud, probably wont help you any, but I wish i checked these before i dug in with my swap a few months ago. Would have saved me time and money. Oh well.

cool- i don't think that the chain is broken - it's a very consistent slapping noise - which is why i agree with you in that it's prolly because of not enough oil...

what are all the sensors that contribute to a no spark condition?

Did you forget hte spark plugs?

I read for a few people it took over 20cranks for hte engine to finally fire up.

first...are the engines from the same year? and how did you check the fuel flow. I had a similar problem when I did my swap, one of the harnesses did not plug into each other, near the drivers side fender, its the harness that has the fuel pump hooked to it. Green wire with orange stripe....thats the one that powers the pump. What I would do is unhook your fuel hoses, have someone crank the car, see if fuel flows out there. Thats what it sounds like to me...I had the same symptoms....everything lit...wants to crank but no cigar

the engines are different years but the harness is the one off the old block, and all soleniods etc. are from the previous motor.

fuel press gauges read sufficient pressure - like i said - there's no spark, fuel is there... anyoone?

If you're getting fuel it has to an electrical problem. (Just to be sure, can you smell fuel if you crank with one plug pulled?)

Engine ground connections are good?

my gauges also were reading well, but it wasn't getting delivered to the engine, which is what I would check...as mentioned above. If you're sure that the fuel is getting from the tank to the motor then forget what I said...not sure what else it could be.

Hold each coil up in your hand with hte smark plug in it and try to start and see if it sparks.

that obviously wouldnt work because the plug wouldnt be grounded

anyway - there must have been a problem with the harness because i switched the entire harness and it fired up - timing chain noises went away once enough oil got in there.

only problem now is that the car revs to 4k rpm when not in gear/ clutch is in - seems to be that the throttle cable is stuck :-/
