NGK price?

'bout average. If you are doing them yourself, get coppers (NGK BKR5E-11) for about $10 for all 6. You have to do them twice as often (30k rather than 60k), but it's not that hard.
Just realized you have a 5th gen. It probably won't make a difference since the only difference pretty much is the VI, but get some input from another 5th gen owner to make sure.

Because they cost 1/6 as much. If you really hate changing plugs that much or are having it done then plats are worth is, but I really don't mind doing it so I can live with changing them twice as often.

Thanks, I haven't changed the plugs in the max yet but I usually get plats for my other cars but they were like $2 each not $10.
They do have the iridium on ebay for like $40 a set. I would get these before the plats but may just go copper for now. thanks all!

30k instead of 60k ... sure its half the life, but thats between 2 to 3 years of driving. it's not like you're changing the plugs every 6 months.
are you so lazy that instead of having a better sparking, better conductive plug that you only want to change your plugs every 6 years?

I personally run NGK coppers for these reasons:
-1.50 a piece versus the 10.00 per platinum plug (advanced auto parts)
-better spark (copper inherently conducts better then platinum)
-It takes me less then a hour to change 6 plugs
In regards to using iridium spark plugs, the dyno results I've seen on a VQ30DE engine provided no gains.
If you do want to get platinums, I'd suggest contacting Jerry Rome Nissan or Courtesy Nissan. Both companies provide discounts for maxima.org members.

Copper is a soft metal and has a low melting temperature. That's why copper plugs don't last long and why the electrode is so damn big on a copper spark plug.
Assuming 100k miles of driving....let's say you change your copper plugs 4 times.
4 x 6 x $1.50 = $36
The average wage in this country is $17/hr. It takes you 3 hours to change the plugs 4 times. $17*3 = $51
So, copper plugs cost you $87 for 100k miles of driving.
For plats, you change it once....
$10*6 = $60
takes 45 min to install them, so $12.75 for your labor.
Plat cost: $72.75.

This is a really good article about spark plugs.
The VQ is designed to run plats, and in the long run they're cheaper. Just use plats or idridium.
