I just used normal engine paint/enamel. There's so many colors of that stuff.

powder coating.

Those were done about Thanksgiving, and they still look like that. just wipe them off with a soft towel and they're good as new.

Hey, that's MY caliper. And yes, they're still perfect!!

If you must paint them, I would highly recommend G2. My original calipers still looked good after 2 years.

I love Folia-Tec. I think it's similar to G2. I tried the high-temp enamel, and wasn't impressed.

Jeff, does your kit come with the lawn and garden hose?

For you guys that have Folia-Tec, where can you find it...since I'm too lazy to hunt on google and what not....

Stop showing off Jeff

From what I hear, I guess the G2 or Folia-tec kits are good. Thing is they take awhile, and the brushing process is not good for impatient lazy people.

I just used high-temp engine enamel primer, paint, and clearcoat. Either Duplicolor or Plasti-Kote is basically the same... Looks fine after 2yrs. Could probably use a touchup though...

www.autobarn.com is the best price I've found (reliable site, anyway).

I would recommend Foliatec caliper paint. It comes with cleaner kit, paint enamel. Take your time cleaning and painting the calipers and the paint will last long. Cost about $45-50 avg. IMO- much better than VHT. -AnGe

Folia Tec worked very well for me on my last car. It does take a LONG time to dry and is tacky for a couple days. If you can park the car and leave it to dry that would be best.

what about just using a clear coat? What i mean is sanding down the calipers then clearcoating over it to prevent rust. I have a spare caliper in my garage that i sanded down/polished bare metal, imo i like that "natural" look as opposed to painted

Foliotec or g2.... Used both and they are both great. Better than spray paint because of the hardening element.....

Is powdercoating a DIY job or you have to get it professionally done? What is the average cost? I currently have G2 on my calipers, was really impressed the first 1.5 years, but after 2 years, they are starting to chip, hopefully powdercoating will last longer.

I'm looking into buying some calipers that are already painted. The paint is chipped and looks pretty cheap (maybe VHT paint). If I sanded them down smooth and bought some G2 paint, what the chances that it would come out smooth and would I beable to tell that the VHT paint was under it?

Use a wire brush drill bit to get the old paint off. If you get it all off then you won't be able to tell if it is under the new paint.

With all the equipment you would have to buy, I would call powdercoat a professionally done job. Cost will vary as to how many pistons the calipers have, and what type/color you want. The ones in the pic are two stage Candy Cherry Red - silver base coat, candy cherry top coat(actually two coats of red to get the color just where I wanted it). They are show quality, and probably the most expensive powdercoat job you would get on calipers. I won't tell you what I paid, it would REALLY scare you away from powder. Oh, mine also have a life time warranty against chipping.

I used regular engine paint.. blue with a clear coat. The back ones are still nice and shiny but brake dust has eaten the heck at the fronts. They have a film of brake dust that doesnt wanna come off.

Yeah I used clear. Wasn't as shiny after though. But the coating has held up so far.
