i took my car to CARBOY to put in my clutch and flywheel, and they said there was a slight problem with my wheel. They noticed a tiny change in the way the flywheel was made and they said it was different from the flywheels they are used to. They had never put in a flywheel for the 2000 maxima. They told me they called the manufacturer, and the manufacturer told them it is the same flywheel from the past. Now CARBOY is asking me if i give them permission to put it in. They said if i give it to them and they install it, if it has problems, it wouldnt be their fault. HAS anyone put in a LIGHTENED FLYWHEEL IN THEIR 2K maxima here??? please post....

You haven't given us enough info to comment. I don't think anyone is running an aftermarket unit on a 2000+ yet. What the shop has to consider is the disc surface area, the total diameter, make sure the flywheel teeth are where they are supposed to be and make sure the disc area thickness is the same as stock. Also the obvious bolt pattern issue. I don't know what the shop is concerned about. You don't mention any specifics. I get the feeling that they are being overly carefull(that's a good thing).

yeah the guy wouldnt give me the specifics. he said i have to go there to look at it. i ordered it from stillen (the flywheel i mean). It's a Billet Lightened Flywheel (95-01 Maxima). They said they have installed earlier gen maxima but never a 2000 before and they said thre's some variations in my flywheel and the ones they are used to.....I just wanted to take a chance to see if anyone here has the same mod for same year car. =(

It should be the same install as 4th gens. Hmm, no problems with my Stillen Flywheels as of yet.

I think someone has put a aluminium insert into his 5th gen. Go look at Google, it lists alot of stuff from the mailing list archive.

From what I understand the "new" flywheel is actually a replacement for the insert in the flywheel. My understanding is the flyweel is actually 2 peices and the lighter fly is a replacement of the steel insert.

One thing I have heard about Maxes is to NEVER resurface a flywheel, regardless of what any ballance test tells you.
