Poorman's CAI Version 2.0
As I was adjusting my Koni struts today, I noticed the fender side of my stock airbox and the 2"X3" gap behind the drivers side headlight that goes directly down into the fender (where my lower intake hose is). An evil and stupid thought popped into my mind. How about ANOTHER intake hose going from the fender side of the airbox down into the fenderwell? The stock inlet into the airbox is about 2"X3" which may or may not be enough for optimal flow. How about another one?
Well, I did the mod...mostly. The only part missing is shopvac hose going to the fender (behind the headlight). Here's what I did:
1) took the old lower resonator elbow and cut it in the middle. This is the elbow that will mount to the airbox and point forward and will be the connection for the shopvac hose.
2) pulled the airbox out and cut the most forward portion of the fender side of the airbox. The cut was made with a dremel. Size ~2"X2". If you have a hole saw, get a 2 1/4" cutter and you'll be set.
3) mounting the elbow to the box is the tricky part. I used a bracket (piece of 5" X 1/2" sheet metal bolted to the box and hose clamped to the elbow. The gaps between the elbow and airbox were sealed off (keep heat out!!) with some foam used to seal the base of a garage door.
Yes, this all sound complicated BUT I will provide pics tommorrow.
Did I test it? YES!!! The sound is AMAZING!!!! It sounds like a very muted PR Racing CAI!!! The sound is mucher deeper than the regular Poorman's/OSCAI setup. Some of the sound will probably go away when I add the shopvac hose. It felt like my car was pulling a bit better up top, but that could be related to the added noise making my butt think I'm going faster. It is 60 degrees out and about 90% humidity. Tommorrow morning with the lower humidity, it might give me a better idea of the gain. AND as usual, I will test this additional mod by itself at the track. If it does help, I should see a gain in mph.
I'll keep ya posted.

Yep, I've got too much time on my hands.
I DEFINATELY think my car is pulling harder up top. Even with the high humidity this morning (80+%), my car had pull after 5500rpms that it didn't have before.
