Yes its ****ing true, my T-belt just ****ing snapped in half. I was driving home from work so I did a quick run to 125 in 3rd gear (6500rpm) just as I get off the gas to take my exit I hear metallic sounds. I have heard them before and you guessed it my T-Belt broke in half so now all my valves are ruined. The bad thing is I installed a new timing belt too, because I didn't want to take any chances. NOw my max is dead for good, this is the 2nd time the T-belt broke on me. The first time was my fault but this time I don't know WTF happened. I'm so pissed right now I just spent $800 for the heads and valve work, $160 on cams, $300 on new lifters and cam oil seals. To get what only 40 miles of fun . Know what the bad thing is I bought the timing belt from autozone. Maybe I should have used a nissan T-belt but I dunno, I can't figure out how this belt broke. I mean I took my time (4 days to be exact) torqued everything to spec followed the procedure in the FSM to the letter. Now I have a dead engine in a car that IMHO is too expensive to fix. Now here is the bad part in its current condition its only worth around $300. This means I have to part it out. As of this day the following things will be for sale, ISKY cams and lifters, ported heads (minus the bent valves), Protorque TC and anything else I can take off. Don't worry my confidence in Nissan isn't lost, after looking at the situation its just better to buy another car rather than fix this one. Sure I can get another engine for around $500 but, the labor for install will be around $600+. I will still hang around you guys and help out as long as I can just as you all have helped me out. BTW I'm looking for a 87-89 300zx turbo 5spd if anyone wants to know. I have always wanted a Z ever since my uncle let me drive his. Now this is my chance to get one. Eventually I might end up buying another maxima but for now I will get a Z car. My advice to anyone that is going to install new heads and cams, USE ONLY NISSAN PARTS! This is the 2nd time I got burned not using nissan parts, first time was when I used a haynes manual. It was so vague and out of sequence it was very confusing. Now I bought a ****ing $13 Timing belt from autozone only to have that POS break after 40 miles of use. Right now I'm just so disappointed at the situation. I guess that some of us learn the hard way. Its too bad I had to endure 2 broken T-belts. The worse thing is I didn't get any races at all.

Damn man. Sorry to hear about that.

But there is no way to get Autozone to cough up the dough to fix your car? If you only had it for 40 miles, there should be a warranty or something. Sounds like the belt was defective, not wrong installation. I'd fight this one. Maybe if they will only cover part of it, it's better than nothing.....

I'll do what I can with my time at home and see what Old San Antonio has to offer. Are you willing to travel?
