been thinking about trading in the max
been thinking about trading in the max
well after about a year of owning this great car i have been doing nothing but contemplating about trading it in within the next year or so. there is nothing wrong with this car and i love it very much but i have wanted a 3 series bmw for a while now and after my brother just bought his and letting me drive it around for a bit, i just knew i had to have one. this car drives like a dream (its a 2002 325ci). i do'nt know...just wanted to see what u guyz think?? am i crazy??

I say Keep it. You know your gonna miss it when its gone. You might as well keep it and drive it just for fun. Also consider that the BMW's are not that great in snow as far as i have heard. My brother has a 328 and ice/sleet/snow give him problems. not that any other car wouldn't have problems in the snow as well. I drove it last winter for a couple of days, and YES it does drive like a dream not as fast as the max, but def a very very fun car to drive.

What I meant is that the resale value of maxima suck. 13k for trade in when it was new, 2002-2003 maxima were ~22k-29k.
A couple months ago I went through this Bimmer phase, where I put my car up for sale and all, hoping to find a buyer and get an E36 325i or 328i, 2 door, 4 door, didnt matter, I would have went for a 528i also, I just wanted a BMW, I love the way the drive and handle and they feel so solid. . . But then I decided to keep the Maxima, its a really reliable car that doesnt really give me any problems, and buying a used BMW could be like opening a can of worms. One day I will own a BMW as my daily driver though, they are great cars to drive.

For many of us, a 3 series has enough interior space, I personally don't need a large car. Speed also isint everything, sure the 4th gen Maxima will rape a 325i in a straight line (and perhaps even a 330i if driven very well), but who cares? The BMW feels and drives like a much better car, and that is why they cost so much. As far as maintinance, you can get BMW parts online for reletively cheap, and if you have a good mechanic, he should have no problem working on a german car. And many of us do the work on our car ourselves, although im not certain, im sure with the factory service manual, basic repair work can easily be done.
I have been going through the same thoughts for over a year now. After many many test drives and unhappy dealer visits, I am keeping it. I will own it in a short time and then it will be worth more to me or will be my go to work car.
I have had my eyes on a toureg V8 with Nav for a year, but there is just way too much neg. equity in the max to make it work for me; and I am not paying out cash to walk out of this. I also drove multiple subarus, VWs, Lexus IS, etc. Everytime I got back in the max I found myself ballin out and enjoying the max better.
My recommendation is go test drive everything, drive it for 20 minute, in traffic, on back roads, everywhere. Go get back into the max and you will know if you want to keep it or trade it for that car.
As for BMW... I had a few friends with 2k2 or newer 3 series... they fell apart like a ford, all of them. If isn't an M3 or M5 (better yet) then don't waste your time.
