Has anyone used the engine restorer in their max?

just curious...cuz, I was reading car and driver, and saw a chart that raised almost 30 psi of compression in a V6 engine. Is this bull****?

I'm no expert but I have been told by a number of mechanics
that nearly all additives are crap. Enough said!

It's a temporary solution, if that.

Before you even consider putting unknown chemicals in your engine, get your compression checked. If you are already in spec, the don't worry about it.

As a general rule of thumb, I would be very suspicious about putting anything in my gas tank but gas and fuel injector cleaner. I don't think it is worth the risk. If Nissan wanted that stuff in the tank, they would tell us about it. I have visions of clogged fuel injectors costing me $$$ due to some stupid additive....

My friend put some in his 85 Ford Crown Victoria. Using a stopwatch, the 0-60 time dropped from 20 sec to 15 sec. I'd say the stuff works. Only if your engine is in bad enough shape to begin with. I know a stopwatch is no way to measure that, but 5 sec is pretty easy to notice.

Engine Restorer as referenced in the begining of this post is an oil additive that is supposed to restore compression.

One of the popular fuel injector cleaners around here in Cheveron Techron Concentrate. I try to use it every 3000 miles, when I change my oil.

Marvel Mystery Oil is a very good, mild sludge/varnish remover, seal restorer. Add around 8 oz. a couple of hundred miles before an oil change. It can also be used as a flush agent in auto transmissions by adding a few oz. a week or two before getting the fluid changed.

Premium gas (at least the good brands, Mobil, Chevron, etc) contains enough detergents to keep your fuel system clean. You shouldn't bother using those additives more than once a year if even that as long as you're using premium gas.

I agree with Weasel, use name brand premium gas and your car probably won't need any fuel cleaners. Nissan states in the owner's manual not to use any fuel additives. However, not all gas is created equal, you get what you pay for. I think Chevron's Techron is the only fuel additive that has been proven to work. I read somewhere that Texaco's additive is now the same as Chevron's but I don't know if it's true.

Then again, not all premium gasolines are equal. Nissan recently released an internal (confidential) bulletin indicating that Unocal 76 gasoline has an additive that should be avoided in Maximas. My dealer called and gave me that little tidbit of information. Unfortunately, I had been using Unocal 76 Premium (92 Octane) for several thousand miles. The net result in my engine was hesitation and detonation.

I recently switched to Chevron Supreme and have been putting Chevron Pro-Gard (basically, Techron Concentrate with a mild injector cleaner) in my gas tank every 1000 miles. Slowly but surely, the hesitation and detonation are going away. But so much for the idea that all premium gasolines are the same.
