Rear window falls down and won't go back up

I went out to my car last night to find my rear window down. Thinking I had just forgotten to put it back up earlier in the day, I got in and tried to put it up. Instead of going up there were some popping sounds and now the only noise is the sound of the window motor running. The glass itself seems to be fine, but I don't know how it looks farther down. My question is, has anybody else had this happen? If so or if not, what do you think needs to be fixed and how much will it be? The car literally just sat in the driveway and somehow the window fell down and something broke. Please help, the look of duct tape on the window is not so attractive.

I had that happen on my probe forever ago.. if you take the door panel off you should be able to see how the window works, and where the problem is.. if the motor is still running, a cable probably snapped or got disconnected..

as to cost.. I dunno.. when mine broke I was a poor high school student so I raised the window by hand and blocked it in place with a piece of wood inside the door .. hella ghetto
