My car finally let me down for the 1st time. Here's the scenario: For a while, to start the car I've had to push the key extra hard and hold it. Tonight, it won't start at all. Accessories all work, battery is good, etc., just won't turn over no matter how hard I press on the key. I think it is the ignition switch, so I took it apart, cleaned up the contacts, and tried it again. Still won't turn over, but I see sparks inside the switch. So my question is, am I right? Is it the switch? Could it be the starter? As always, your help is much appreciated.

When you say you had a hard time starting your car, do you mean that the starter would go and the car wouldn't start? I hope I don't have to replace the starter...

95-96 have weak starters they seem to last 60,000 - 80,000 miles. They are simple to replace. When mine went, the car sounded like a dead battery... Verrrr..r..r....ummm...

Turned out both the starter and the switch were bad. Luckily, Autozone had a rebuilt starter for $140, and the switch was only $30. 2 hours later, everything is good again. Thanks for the help.
