Why Is The 6th Gen Maxima On The Altima Platform?
The Murano is also on the same platform. Plenty of car manufacturers have 2 or 3 basic platforms that they build all of their models off of, it makes good business sense, its tried and true and it saves money.
Okay if you dont like the Maxima made on the Altima platform...
Its the Altima made on the Maxima platform
Its cheaper to make, and thank goodness they look nothing alike like some cars do. ex. GMC Envoy/Chevy TrailBlazer/Buick something/Isuzu something

I think that was on contribution to Nissan losing money in the early-mid 90's. They have different platforms and engines and some of them weren't shared until later on or noat at all (VG30DE, what other Nissan badged USA car had this?VE30DE was a limited production run and only then the Maxima had it, the VQ30DE was only used in the Maxima as a Nissan badged vehicle in the USA, see where I'm getting at?) Nissan had to platform share, other manufactures do it and have done it for awhile to cut cost and actually break even and finally make a profit.
generally, i cant tell the dif between a new maxima and new altima, cuz i dont know much about the 6th gens...but i think they suck when they are stock, they look like huge roaches or something....
It's about cutting cost, it's all common sense, but the Maxima looks too much like the Altima from the side view of the car but from rear and frontal, you know it's a different car, but thank god they don't use the same interior otherwise, you wouldn't know apart.
