It'd be close. But I think the max has the edge.

A 2k-2k3 maxima is quicker in the straights, but an is300 carves them up a road course.

I thought IS300's were on par with 4th gens??? They were never blatantly fast, I believe mid to high 15's.. if so 5.5 gens would sweep them up straight.. not on on turns though

Lexus IS300 fit and finish is better then the Maxima. The independent suspension also makes for better handling and overall ride comfort. The cabin is quieter as well.

You shouldn't buy a car just for it's power, rather how the car fits your personality. You'll enjoy it much better if you chose it based on how you like the way it drives and how you feel behind the wheel. The Lexus will drive better then the Maxima because it's independent suspension design is a step up from the 5th gen Maxima. Overall power is probably about equal, the IS probably has more aftermarket support then the Maxima does.

The cars will drive pretty differently considering that one's FWD and the other's RWD...

Although the maxima will feel a little quicker..

4th and 5th gens have soft touch plastics on the dashboard and at least the upper portion of the doors. An is300 has hard plastics on the dashboard and the only soft touch on the door panel is the 'suede' door inserts The fitment of them doesn't compare to an is300's though, the panel gaps are uber tight and there are no noticable mold lines like on a 5th generation dashboard.

Oh wait, njmaxseltd is talking about fit and finish, not material type. N/M is300's do have better fit and finish dispite using hard touch plastics everywhere.

my neighbor has an 01 IS300 and he is so jealous of me in my 5spd maxima. He is complaining of poor gas mileage, those things get like 22 MPG on hwy. Depending on whats important to you, a Lexus is always a Lexus...but even a 3.0 Max driven right will take it.

Maxima delivers adequate handling for everyday driving. If you need more than that, then you are looking at wrong kind of cars period. Get a WRX if you want handling. It is very dissapointing to see many ppl on .org want Maxima to be a fuken sports car, and keep whinin about the handling, performance, etc. Well Maxima is not a slalom car but a premium midsize sedan with an oomph.

Is300s are much smaller than the max, the interior seems like its the size of a civic.

Ive smoked plenty with my 4thgen so a 5.5 gen would have a walk in the park.

But a is300 with a turbo kit and lots of cash can be more fun, lots of parts are availible and it RWD.

i think i settle with max 02-03 cause is better on MPG, nice look on big rims, more rommy inside plus quick for take off on accelaration.plan on 19' rims tint window brush aluminium inside interior.ahhhhh want my max to look hottttt not say this because i am on maxima.org but is for sure hands down for max with overall point.family come first so going to trade the 'stang bullitt with the max..i am going to miss the torque/sound of her..
