Ok, I need a new battery and think Optima is best for racing vibrations.

Some rides have Red tops - some people say I need the Orange top with reversed posts to fit better.

Which one should I buy?

Forgive my ignorance, but what is an Optima battery and what makes them special?

They are sealed maintenace free batteries and not wet cell batteries (that may possibly leak) like OEM batteries. They can also be mounted in a variety of positions...even upside down.

Try the Deep cycle Yellow top Optima you won't regret it. I think the only difference is that since it's a deep cycle you can drain the battery and recharge it without any harm done. I know most batteries can't withstand that.

I got an orange top and it's great. Exact same performance spec as Red but the reverse posts. Maxima takes reverse posts battery. You could fit the red top but you would have to strech the cables.

I believe the "R" version with reverse polarity only comes in a 34. The Max should take a Red or Yellow top 35. If you have any serious draw (sound system, etc.) or just want the extra reserve, I'd go for the yellow top if you can afford it.

The Yellow top is a deep cycle version.
The Red top is a starting battery.
The Orange top is a reverse polarity starting battery
And Blue tops are marine batteries.

I have a yellow top in my other vehicle and have been very happy.

34 vs 35 type battery?

Tick Tock - what's that number mean? Your statement doesn't make sense because Optima doesn't show a 35 series Yellow Top available.

34-1050 Red Top™
34/78-1050 Red Top™
75/35-925 Red Top™
R34-1050 Orange Top™
D34-950 Yellow Top™
D34/78-950 Yellow Top™
