Tint Removal....inspection..

I just got my max a week ago and I need to get the max inspected. Right off the back, I know I'm goin to fail because of my front window tints. This is my dilemna. Does anyone have any ideas on removing the tints instead of goin to a tint shop? The tint shop will be my last resort. I dont want to pay $$ just to remove tints, when I know I can probably do it myself. An idea I have to remove the tints is using a razor blade to peel of the film, will this work? Any suggetion...

Do you want to remove it? Tint is not supposed to be one of the things they check during an inspection. It should pass inspection (at least it would in NH or MA) but that doesn't mean the tint is legal, and you may still be ticketed for it.

yea thats what i thought, other wise i don't know why peole in NY would pay so much for tints when they have to remove it every year or so. I think some places in NY you can pass with tints, but like kev said you might get ticketed.

NJ inspection wont pass you for tint unless its from the factory, which means in the glass.

kidkay, i would suggest trying to find a local gas station who will do that for you, or service center. most charge $50-75 and shouldnt have a problem with tint. if you HAVE to remove it, i used a plastic screw driver to pick at the tint in a location you cant see, like a corner or below the weather stripping. then slowly peeled the tint off from that location with my nail, and pulled it off in large strips. to get the glue off, i used a old towel dampened with rubbing alcohol and that took the glue off fairly easily. DONT let it drip onto your leather door panels tho.

Yeah, in NJ they check tint. I bought my car with all the windows tinted. They failed me the first time, I put my windows down and thought they might not check..

Anyway I did this myself..took a max of maybe 10 min. Just lower the window some, and with a razor just lift up some of the edge. Then merely just pull it all off, and clean up any of the residue. I don't remember what I used to clean up the reside, but I think glass cleaner might do the trick, don't take my word though. My Uncle is a Master tech at my Nissan dealer, and he always gives me Nissan goodies for free, so that is where I got what I used, just don't know what it was. DON'T pay to have them taken off. Even $4 would be a rip off. Very easy to remove.

Okay, thx for info, i'd look for a gas station or service center doing inspection. If i cant find any, i'll take off the tint myself.

i think you can just take tint off with a blow dryer and something softer than a raiserblade, yet sharp

for the front windows, a razor blade and windex works great- just be careful not to scratch the glass with the razor.
scrape up the corner of the tint and peel off as much as you can, then go back after it with the razor blade and pell up another corner.

then spray the window down with windex, ammonia, or alcohol and use the razor blade to scrape up all the glue from the tint.. get as much as you can there, then finish the cleaning with paper towels or newsprint.
that's about it. plan an hour or so for the front windows if that's all you're doing.

Doc note for tints? yeah if it's legit.

Matt93SE my front windows took like 10 min to take tint off...guess I got lucky And yeah, just peel slowly so you get most of the tint off at once. You only need the razor to lift the tint up, then you peel yourself. In hindsight I wish I would have called one of my friends up, he knows a guy that knows a guy that would have passed me for some compensation..

The cops never bothered me with the tint since it was light, and even the inspection guy told me I could get it tinted afterward as the cops don't really care about tint this light (I tried arguing with him, but knew it would make no diff). So see if you can bypass it, if not easy enough to take them off.

This is why I go to a private gas station.....I never deal with the DMV here in NJ.....yeah, it's gonna cost you, but you don't have to worry about taking your tints off....most private places are cool with it...I know the one I go to just rolls my front windows down in case someone (like an inspector I guess) comes over.....

Get rid of your front tints using windex, a razor blade, and paper towel.
Inspection is FREE in NJ. So why pay $50+ to have have it inspected by a small shop? Just so that you get to keep your tints??!!!
come'on, you'll eventually have to remove the tints anyway since NJ cops will pull you over for them.

I personally don't have that problem with the cops with my tints (not even when I had my other car with the two-toned tints) never bothered me......and why pay more money to get them put back on again? Who wants to go thru that everytime insepction time rolls around....

they shouldnt check your tints, its not something that needs to be inspected. im in NY, i have 20% all around, never a prob. my last inspection i got hassled about my HID's, and clear corners. my HID's are stock 2k2-3 ones too. i was like dude, there stock lights, and he was like nah man, i use to work at nissan, and there illegal. i just sat there like .......right guy was a ****in idiot. ended up just bringing it to my friend but you definitly shouldnt have any probs with tints.

and i fyou do have to take your tint off, that ****in sucks, and is totally ridiculous
