Front AGX's shot, what to replace with?
Hey all, as most of you know I've been running on AGX/Sprints for 2+ years now and one of my front agx's is shot and I have a feeling the other is on its way out as well. The rear ones still seem fine so I don't plan on changing them, would I be better off getting the front illuminas or replacing them again with AGX's? Where is the cheapest place to find either? My problem seems to be finding the two front struts sold seperately rather than all 4 together.
Thanx

Pretty decent prices on this site. This is where I bought my rear Illuminas from.

Not a GD anymore. Check the thread or maxmods for ordering instructions. They may be out so you may want to call to see when you could get them by.
I would agree. Get illumina's unless you want to swap out the whole suspension for coilovers. I know your car is no budget mobile.

Terran the thing is I don't want to purchase the whole set, I just want the fronts, my rear AGX's show no signs of age, while the front ones are just trash now. My car is turning into a budget mobile slowly but surely, starting to remove a few of the show mods and replacing them with OEM parts because in a year this will be my S/C four door beater :-)

mmmmmmmmm...SC'd beater. I want one.
You can buy just the fronts. They are more expensive than the rears though. I want to say a pair for the fronts would be about $240, but I'm not sure. The deal should go on from now on so you could buy the fronts now and the rears whenever you need them and the total would still be $408.

The most common way to tell if its blown is to look for leakage. The only thing the a blown strut will do is effect the ride quality. It will not change the ride height. The spring holds the car up. The strut absorbs the road imperfections. It says right in the AGX booklet they do not warranty their stuff >1.5" drop.
Get Illuminas. You live in NJ that should be reason enough. VQuick has Illumina's/Tein(H Techs) and I have AGX/Progress. His ride quality is logically better than mine in the summer. In winter his ride is Cadillac like compared to mine. The AGX has no adjustability below 40 degrees. The only setting is, "Knock your teeth out". The AGX also only has adjustability on the rebound while the Illumina adjust both rebound and dampening. Illumina is far and away better. I certainly plan to upgrade to those if mine ever blow.

True but if there is wear on the top of the piston rod then they will know you are BS'ing them. They won't find that out till you send it too them and then they'll say your SOL. At which point you will be SOL cause you wasted $20+ on shipping. I know I'm being pessemistic but all warranty stuff I've tried has been a waste of time. Not with AGX in particular. Mainly CM.

i love how people think illuminas are "so much better".... we should have a post set up 2yrs from now with people running illuminas on a 2" drop to see how they are holding up. Regardless of the strut brand they will eventrually go on you with a 2" drop. No aftermarket strut is designed to handle a car sitting 2" lower than it normally should be. Unless of course you buy shortened struts... but thats my .o2 on the whole illumina vs agx thing
back to the AGX thingy... one of mine went out after about a year being on Sprints... i just found a used set to replace both of them for $120 shipped and called it a day. Keep checkin the forsale forums, maybe youll get lucky

I agree that the strut isn't designed to operate in that range. Nobody is questioning the longevity of the AGX or Illumina. What I was saying earlier is that the Illumina is superior in what it does through adjustment. First, the Illumina's don't get stiff in cold weather. Second, the adjustment on the Illumina alters both rebound and dampening while AGX's only alter rebound.

My opinion, the AGX are crap. I seen them blow on regular 1.5 inch drop maximas. The AGX is just a adjustable tockico blue strut. Yes for the money they are an upgrade from stock.
You want a good strut that has been proven. I say you go with a Koni yellow. I lived in New Orleans and the roads are awful. With my 2 inch drop on cut coils they never blew. Thats why I have Konis on both of my maximas. Konis also come with lifeitme warranty unlike the AGXs. I dont know the story on the illuminas. I am not a big fan of Tockicos nor do I know their warrantee policy.
