Got one of these babies for christmas... haven't used it yet but I think I'll break it out when I help my bro put his new headunit in... it does melt solder quickly though.. I did try it out that far but I wasnt brave enough to grab the tip after heating it up

ahh so we have a test subject! find an old piece of clothing you dont like, and test it on there, and if you have the *****, feel it after you solder

Cold heat is an oxymoron. I use a regular soldering gun whenever I solder anything.

I heard you're not supposed to use it with fragile delicate equiptment. It heats up with some kind of heavy amperage or somthign and that "could" damage delicate electronics

Seems like a good product, clever device as I've dropped the solder iron in the carpet for a sec, on my pants, and would be good to have but, Tyrexx's statement concerns me.

I guess in that car you could use it at all, cause what would we be soldering that isnt considereed fragile equipment.

I found more solder and tested it out today... Heats up and starts to melt the solder in like 2 seconds and then cools down to a temp that is bearable to grab on to with in the next 2-3 seconds... Seems to work pertty well... It may stop you from burning holes in things when you drop it but its not going to stop solder from dripping and burning stuff... also the tip seems kind of fragile so if you drop it on that it might break it

Solder somthing to a microchip and see if it still works. Since it uses amperage to heat up it transfers a certain amount into whatever you are soldering.

I want one if it doesnt fry electronics.

Don't have anything I can do that with now... maybe I'll resolder my door lock timer (or what ever it is that makes the 3rd gen locks go crazy). But I probably wont have time to do this until the weekend... I'll get back to you on this one

It's a POS. A friend got it a month or 2 ago and used it to put a chip in his PS2. Let's just say he had to buy another ps2. He only soldered on 5 points and then took the chip out completely to see if the console still works unmodified, it doesn't.

u could use that for soldering wires and crap together, but when it comes down to fine electronics, just grab the tradisional solder gun and go at it.

hey, those things were a disapointment. they make it look like a good idea, and it works well, but it really doesn't. the ONLY thing it *COULD* do is very very small projects. where not much heat is needed, and you are using tiny solder to the unit can actually heat it.

anything more then that, just use a regular iron. I tired to coat a peice of 12 gauge wire with solder, and it had troubles. enough said.
