We had this very intersting discussion on Shing's forum a few days ago about the 3k oil change...and I was interested in prepping my car for a synthetic change for the upcoming winter--is there any specials instructions for it? just drain the oil non-synthethic oil, pop in new oil filter (any particular brand or stock Nissan ones will do?) and put in the new synthetic oil?
am i missing any steps?

thanks =)

Just change the oil like you would normally do. As for filter, get a nissan oem filter... or find a mobile 1.

something to consider...
I hear that WalMart sells Mobile1 Synthetics by the gallons for cheap, a lot cheaper than normal. You may want to look into this. Apparantly, at the WalMarts around here, they are out often though.

oil change

i was reading on a 300z site ,they said to change oil with a syn. blend first, then next oil change to full syn., they said the engine need to get used to the syn., i didn't do that though, i just changed to syn., just thought you might want to know, not a bad piece of advice.and after that you shouldn't go back to mineral.

Isn't one quart of synthetic oil enough? Just add it to the other 3 quarts of mineral oil with the same viscousity.

sleeper--

I heard that too...that when you are doing your first synthethic oil change, you should use a blend...but I don't think I am going to do that. I actually just wanted to try a winter with the pure synthetic--and then go back to mineral. Is that bad-- going back to mineral after the winter? Are there any complications with this?

The again, considering that with synthetic, and the amount of driving that I do--two oil change per year will do...but I definetely want to know before doing anything.

Shing--thanks for the walmart price tip. I saw the 5w-30 at target for about $22 for 6 quarts--

not a bad price right?

There really shouldn't be any reason to change oil type so often. Once Synthetic, stick with it... there's so talk about how the seals will leak blah blah... but I've never seen it happen.

Yes $22 for 6 is not a bad price... Usually they are $4 per here...

BTW you can safely use your mobile to atleast 7500 miles... that I've proven with lab tests.
