Would it be smart to..

...Buy a 4th gen Max with over 200k miles now for cheap, then when the engin goes, invest in a new everything?...There is a dealership selling a Max with messed up leather interior, and its missing leather from the E-Brake...But it has 208k miles on it. They are selling it for WAY too much, and I have a feeling that I might be able to talk them down..way down.. so would it be smart to do that? or should I just save everything for a Max in good condition?

if i was you then i would save up..208k is quite a lot even for a nissan..but it depends on how much they are selling it for...if its more than $2,000 then no way

It's not a smart move to buy that kind of mileage, especially how it was taken care, when you look at the interior, it says the same about the engine. It's a money pit. Dont' go for it

You also have to consider that a vehicle with that kind of mileage is also going to have other problems starting to pop up...tranny, electrical, suspension, etc. not just the motor to replace.

thats so true...I just really want another max bad...And i figure if i do that, then replace everything later once the engine blows along with everything, I'll hae a great max later on once everything is replaced...but i guess i can wait...

I understand you perspective, get the max cheap and even is the engine isnt the best you got it for such a good price that you could drop a new low milage engine in there and still come up good, but you'll still have the ripped up interior, and the tranny might be abused itself.

I'm shock a dealer is selling a 208K max for $5K thats just retarded. One people who would buy that are those who dont realize that high milage on a car ISNT a good thing.

I agree with all of the posts but another view from high mileage cars. I just sold my 1989 Nissan Pathfinder (I know it's not a Maxima!) that had 240k on it. I bought it new and maintained according to factory specs. I promise that it looked, ran and drove like a new one. I did overhaul the tranny but the engine has never been touched (except for changing the timing belt every 60k). It has been all over the U.S. and today, I would get it in and drive anywhere in the country without any popping the hood. I sold it for 2k to the first guy that looked at it. Everything still worked. Cold A/C and all. Ok, off my soapbox now............ Back to the original topic! Just wanted to post a different viewpoint.

I agree that there are certain instances in which a high mileage vehicle will sell for a little more because of the way it was taken care of, but in this instance he'll have to replace way more than the car is worth...which isn't a problem if he plans on keeping the car forever.

There are awesome deals out there. Other ideas for you if you're planning on keeping the car until it dies are salvage(rebuildable) titled cars. They lower the value of the car and you can usually pick them up pretty cheap. Or if you have the means to fix it, look at a car that has been in a light to moderate accident.

RollerRoB - It depends on how much u want to fix it up....Or do u even plan to fix it up (modding that is)? If you can talk them down....then I say go for it.....then u can fix it up the way u want it....built motor, new suspension, new brakes...the works....and since u live in Torrance...I can refer u to my mechanic...drop off the max at his house and he will do everything for u for a REALLY good price....he knows a Maxima inside and out by heart...trust me...you will be taken care of

But like i said..it really depends....do u have another daily driver? If you don't then I suggest u stay away from that Maxima...theres prob another good condition one lying around somewhere for that price.....But if u can pick it up for cheaps.....and u have a daily driver for the downtime the Maxima will be at the shop....then I say GO FOR IT!

Honestly it would be impossible to give an opinion without seeing the car. Presuming it's not been flooded or have a wrecked frame, then yes for the right price it could be worth buying. 4th gen; 95? 99? You didn't say. How's the rest of it? Stereo work? Tranny in good shape? Totally impossible to opine on this meaningfully. Even if it's a 99 in otherwise good condition (not counting the leather), then $5k is still too much.

please do, but sadly I dont think you can get them lower tha $3K at the most, dealerships are stubborn and they will play ball with you, but they have their limits, let us know what happens.
