sorry for asking this....i have a 98 gle and my "service engine soon" light came on while driving to school. so here's my dumbass question....does my car have a "service engine soon" AND a "check engine light"...or are these the same lights with just different "sayings" for different year maxes?

one light indicates emission problem or you left the gas cap off

 

It can indicate MANY MANY more things than just emissions issues...That's why there are so many different codes.

 

thanks for the replies guys....this helps me out a great deal. it's already dark outside, so i'm gonna check the code tomorrow and post it tomorrow. im already guessing it's some type of emissions problem since my hi-flo cat went bad....and when i went to go put my stock back on one of the nuts was bad, so the muffler shop did a half-*** job puttin that hi-flo cat back on (they opted to just keep that one my car instead of my stock..not sure why), but i already ordered a replacement under warranty so im just waiting on that...im hoping it's just the catalytic causing this light. anyways, thanks guys for your replies and help.
