Those who have removed oil pumps step in

I'm in the process of installing a newer VQ into my dad's '95 and had to swap both timing chain covers and oil pans from the old engine over to the newer one since the others were damaged by being mishandled at the junk yard. I was about to install the old upper oil pan when i noticed the oil pump housing had been cracked in the new engine. I have a couple questions:

1. How thick is the oil pump housing?

2. Would that crack cause a leak?

I realize that it would just leak back into the oil pan but I'm concerned that it won't allow enough oil pressure to build up. What do you guys think?

Here's the picture:

not sure on the exact depth of the housing or the affect on pressure, but if you are worried slap some JB weld on it and let it cure for the PROPER amount of time. then just watch the area and check for leaks. but I bet you could get by fine with the JB weld

I think you had better replace that asap. No pressure = bye bye engine.

If you have the engine out anyway, it's 10x easier to deal with now.

Awwwwwwww mannnnn...i didnt wanna go through the trouble of removing the timing cover and sprockets all over again to get to it.

Well the oil pump housing on the old engine is still intact. Only problem is that motor at had 276k on it. You think it's fine to use the old oil pump?? Or could i just put the newer oil pump in the old housing??

No, thanks. I'm just gonna use the oil pans from the older engine. They're in good condition except for a some varnish.

Thanks for the diagram Jeff. Looks simple enough. I guess I'll just put the new pump into the old housing. Sweet.

Oh yea, one more thing. What should i use to prime the pump before i reinstall it??

Don't worry. I'll take my time with it.

So what exactly should i use to prime it? The FSM says to use engine oil but the Haynes says petroleum jelly.
