they are rare, SE-Ls' have extra badging on carpets side of the car.

nothing extra extra special as it still performs just like the other 4gen but it would be nice to have. If its the crimson red then definately get it, thats extra rare.

Yeah, pretty much what they said

They all are Cali-Spec emmisions....and are 'supposed' to be slower.

well if i did decide to get the SE-L i probably wouldnt keep it crimson red because im not too fond of it on that particular car. i have another question.... rightnow im looking at 2 maximas.. one is a dark silver 98 SE selling for about 2k with like 128k mi on it leather, heated seats, auto, 2 dents, an the C.E. aluminum dash trim. the other max is the 99 SE-L selling for 6,500 with approx 60k mi on it cloth interior, auto, and the dealer hasnt mentioned any problems in the add. i know there is a definite mileage advantage but interior is very important to me. im getting a full aftermarket exhaust regardless of which car i get but thats about it as far as preformance goes. the family would rather me go for the 99 but the ultimate decsion is up to me. am i making that big of a mistake leaning toward the dark silver 98 SE??? thanks for the comments

If your going to buy it and then change the color of it, don't buy it. Your probably the only person on this site that would do that lol. Just let someone else have it.

that helps clear things up, If it were me I'd get the 98 for 2K that is a steal, and that would be more money for aftermarket parts but if your just getting an exhaust then if you got the 99 then you'd just be spending a little more for the exhaust.

Keeping in mind what you said I'd still get the 98 your faimly will enjoy the leather seats, plus heated for you and passenger, auto climate control, plus more features. You'd save a lot with the 98,m 128K is a lot of miles but the car will/should still run like 60K for atleast another 70K.

my vote 98.

I wish I had a SE-L which I had a hard time when they came out since Nissan gave me a hard time when I wanted to buy it new.

maxtank has a 99 SE-L thats black? i dont think i'd be the only one to change the color. but if it was a 5spd then i would definitly get it.
i forgot something major on the 98 SE...it has a cracked windshield, the front 02 sensor has to be replaced soon and needs a new evaporator control valve and pressure sensor. the windshield crack isnt major so that i can take care of and one of the dents i can take care of. so the negatives on the dark silver 98 SE are it has 128k mi on it, needs a new front 02 sensor and evaporator control valve and pressure sensor. im not sure how much that all will run for...
the 99 SE-L has no known negatives but is 6500....

Not much, but considering that car is otherwise grossly underpriced I'd be very wary about what else is wrong, and why the seller hasn't fixed these minor problems pre-sale.

BTW don't buy the red one and paint it. Unless you have a couple thousand to throw at the paintjob at least, it's going to look like ***. Don't take it to maaco.

Get the 99 SE-L max, then drive up to brooklyn and i'll trade you for my 97 max =]..Nah seriously, take the one with less mileage, and just have fun modding it up(if you like).

the 98 se has GOT to have more problems, it wouldn't be priced that low. Keep looking, get a 5spd.

embroidered SE in the seats, and the gauges are also different too slightly. i got mine used, but yeah its nothing like extra worth paying a lot for, but its pretty neat. only reason i got an sel was because was loaded up 5 spd with low mileage.

Maxine is SE limited and loaded. But honestly. I only bought her because of the condition she was in. had nothing to do with limited this or that
