Adventures in weight reduction

Pics sort of speak for themselves. Obviously, there's lots left to do. But I still feel we made good progress. This is clearly the highest riding car around sitting on Sprint springs...

Damn, theres not much left of it. Is that Max being used for parts, or are they rebuilding it?

We're gutting everything we possibly can to see how fast it will go on a stock motor and ECU.

This is very disheartening. I was hoping to be able to remove the heater core without pulling the dash.

Whats the HVAC still doing in there? Why did you guys open up that wiring harness? You snipping the unused ones? What are the wipers still doing on there?

Glad the two jabronis missed the part where I said "Obviously there's lots left to do"

And we need to recover the refrigerant and drain the cooling system before we can get the AC evaporator and the heater core out...

the fun part for me would be disassembling it, my fear would be "uh, why do we have so many parts left?" lol, have fun and good luck on your times. But most of all, good luck putting that back together, sure hope you don't lose anything between now and then.

It's not going back together. The only things going back in are the dash cover, a seat and the guages.

Yeah we still have a bunch of work ahead of us, and no neither of us have alot of time on our hands, or this would have been done. The car has been sitting at Bens house for saveral months, and this is the first time we have touched it.
In the near future plans are:
1. Removing everything HVAC related.
2. gutting doors completely. Cutting out all un-needed sheet metal, and crash beams.
3. cutting out parts of the rear deck.
4. removing the front and rear crash beams.
5. installing a 5 gallon fuel cell and removing the OEM tank.
6. tossing the OEM exhaust and installing a straight 2.75" stainless pipe dumping into the rear axle compartment.

Better start working on the biggest impacting factor and have the driver go on a diet.

So how much does it weigh now that you completely ripped it apart?

Whatever weight has it sitting at stock-looking height while equipped with Sprint springs...

We're also going to cut off all the little mounting brackets and studs for the equipment we've removed.

if you guys want light, just take off the entire door assemblies. strip it down completely to the bare rolling chassis. im guessing you guys are going to trailer the car to the track right?

I could see this car weighing in the low 2000 pound range and running high 13's.

This car isn't going to be daily driven so why couldn't it weigh in the low 2000 pound range. It's probably not going to stay completly stock motor wise.

If neal could pull off a 13.4 all motor on a car no where as near stripped to this.. I'm sure this car can get very very low 13's if not high 12's easily. But then again there are very few drivers that can pull that off... or neals car was a factory freak
