maxima and non-maxima related...trunk supports...

ok, so due to some minor modifications to my trunk, it will no longer stay open. it doesn't pop up at all. that's not important though. what's important is that now i'm adding trunk supports and would like to immitate other cars setups. not really sure where and how to mount it. i'm considering mounting right by the rear struts and then attaching to the trunk bars. if you actually look at the trunk bars, there is a pre-existing hole that seems similiar to where you would attach one end of a trunk lift.

anyone have any pictures of this. if not on your maxima, then ANY car that you know of or have that has trunk lifts where i can look at the picture. thanks guys.

Your talking about hood struts except for the trunk right? I'll look at my sis' A4 tonight and see what she has. You can also check it out in person if you want.

yep, exactly those. i knows lots of the benz's have them, and i would assume some lincoln continentals have them, but i was hoping some more nissan cars could have them. like i said, the bars have a pre-existing hole, so i have a feeling that another model uses our bars but has struts built in. someone told me some late model G20's had trunk supports. i would love it if i could find pictures of that.

yes G20's have rear "struts" but they also have special hinges. Its a totally different design so swaping parts is not really an option. The way our trunk opens is compleatly different.

But a car thats similar is a Audi 4000s. my sis had one and it uses the same goofy question mark shapped hinges/supports and Im pretty sure it uses struts.

im sure there are many other cars with similar stuff.

I know Matt93se and awsm66 have both done this on their 3rd gens
They put the struts onto the side of the trunk hinge and the other end is bolted onto the side of the strut tower. The problem is finding a strut with the right length and travel.

please do....i think i have an idea of what to do....and i already found the website with the trunk lifts in MANY sizes and there's a few with 90lb pressures, which would be perfect for lifting it. just need the picture to feel a bit more confident in what i'm attempting.

the ones i found are here....

if you see, i have MANY sizes to choose from, and many different strengths to choose from. as soon as i decide my closed and open points, i'll be able to set this up. i like that picture you sent. i'll have to inspect my trunk to see if i have a flat suface like that under the deck and far enough out that hte support can still turn when the trunk lifts.

polo go with me on this

http://www.rockler.com/findit.cfm?co...=417&sid=AF081

This latch system (not exactly this one) but would fit in the crack next to the ruber. Alot of work because you would have to cut the trim, but it would be flushwhen it closes.

i understand what you're saying. my only issue with that is water....you'd have to REALLY know how to seal that area up after you cut it up. AND, the mechanism itself is not completely waterproof, so i can imagine water dripping down. i've seen and heard of people drill holes and then have it drip water forever. NOT a good thing.
although, a THIRD option would be to add the trunk supports in the same location you're discussing, and since it's only a small hole to drill, sealing that wouldn't be too hard at all.

yeah, i had to remove mine...the sub box i built for my system was too big and since my subs are aimed up, when i would lower the trunk, the bars would rub up on the sub. sucks but hey, waht can ya do. i'll be doing measurements this weekend and will prolly be purchasing very soon. let's try to keep this thread together so we can all help each other out doing this.

so where are your placement points exactly. also, do you know the extended and compressed lengths?

i'm a little confused. there are a various number of sizes available. they are all BASED on your placement points. w/out placement point it's hard to figure out what's long enough and what isn't.

i bought the "natural gas lift supports" from go2marine.com
i found my placement points slightly under the seat belt mechanism and at roughly 15-30 degrees, it connects with the trunk lid right at the curve of the bars.
i have a comp. length of 10" and a ext. length of 20". there were no sizes like that on the site, so i purchased the 12"/20", which seemed closest. also, i'm able to purchase 90degree socket brackets and regular ball sockets. total price came out to $79 shipped for 2 struts, 2 90degree brackets, and 2 reg. ball sockets.

that makes sense. you only have a 14.5 Ext. Length. i measured mine at 20". the only thing you can do is try to bring it closer, but i would have no idea where you could place it.
