Just got a ticket. Help.

Me and my friend were out driving in his car. We got pulled over for speeding. The cop clocked us going 45 in a 25. 16 year old driver. How much is he looking at paying for the ticket? This is probably going to get locked, I know that, but I was gonna see if I could get some answers before it was.

Thanks,
Mooney

Well since we all don't live in your state or have seen the ticket. The price could vary. He should suck it up and stop speeding, obviously you must have been in a residential area. Oh...and your friend.

good night

Double the limit is serious business. If it says mandatory court appearance on the ticket, be prepared to defend against a wreckless or careless driving ticket bro.

It doesn't say mandantory court appearce, it just gives a date. It was in a neighbor hood. I almost did slap him, cause I got frisked by the cop. Wat would be your guess, around $200 or more? I don't think I've ever seen him drive the speed limit, this is just the first time he got a ticket.

:: Any conviction which resulted from a charge that involved the drinking of alcoholic beverages and the driving of a motor vehicle but did not require mandatory revocation of the driver license - 6 points

:: Reckless driving - 6 points
:: Speeding (85 mph or above) - 5 points
:: Failure to yield right-of-way - 5 points
:: Fassing stopped school bus - 5 points
:: Wrong side of road - 4 points
:: Illegal passing - 4 points
:: Following too closely - 3 points
:: Disregarding traffic control device (stop sign, traffic light, etc.) - 3 points
:: Speeding in excess of posted limits - 2 points
:: All other moving violations - 2 points

...but anyway, isn't there a program(s) that you can take and get the points taken off your record?

No speed violation checked and appearance date= mandatory court appearance. Good luck with that. Hopefully your friend can work something out with the prosecutor. If it turns out too bad, you can always postpone and consult an attorney.

Honestly for some people the only way to learn is pay for it. It will teach him a lesson, and the next time he has a lead foot, he will think about his wallet.

Does the offense part of the ticket say "speeding" or "reckless driving". You need to check your state laws and see what is considered reckless. A speeding ticket is not the biggest deal, you may pay up to a $400 fine and 4 points on your record. Reckless however can cost you your license.

I got an 84 in a 55 once.. hired a lawyer. Ended up paying $700+, taking a driver improvement course, yet somehow no points (wtf?). Learned my lesson from that.

This is all not to mention the increase in insurance. The insurance will go thru the roof with a 16 year old, speeding double the speedlimit in a residential... your friends ticket will probably be the cheap part on this one.

Your friend should call the courthouse to find out the amount of the fine.

In NY...11 points your pulled off the road...ive had somewhere near that. Highest I ever got clocked at is 80 in a 50, Ive almost always been given a break, and the cop writes a ticket for lower than I was going (not that big of a break) Id say you're lookin at 3 points and $100-$200 if it were in NY.

More than 30MPH over the posted limit in NY is automatic revocation if the cop writes the ticket for that speed.

The clerk at the courthouse won't know the fine, that is determined after the district attorney speaks with you and the judge makes his decision on what you will be given. Ive tried it before, they don't know. You're best bet is see if you can make some connections with the cops in the area, see if they know the cop who wrote you up, and see if the cop will either a) agree not to show at court or b) tell the DA to plea bargain it down to a lesser charge such as a parkign ticket. My last two were plead down to traffic tickets, it cost me money, but no points on my record (all that mattered)

Anybody that drives 110 in a 40 zone should have a serious butt kicking, IMHO!
