getting out of a lease?

how can i legally get out of a lease? i know its hard but whats the usual penalties involved and how do i find them out, ect ect.

I know about lease trading and all that, but i don't want to do that mainly because i dont think anyone in their right mind would possibly take up the payments i have on my 2004max with my current mileage and still 2 years to go.

i love the max and all but im just fed up with the service dept and the problems i have with it.

just read your lease agreement. One way to get out of your car is to buy it out and then sell on your own...run some numbers, see what makes most sense.

I think one can get out of a lease as long as one gets deeper into hock. I've heard people in my office do it--one day they're driving a Civic sedan, leased, and the next day they have a Honda Pilot, leased. Holy bend-over I'm driving upgrade.

But use common sense. If you agree to rent something for 39 months, and as the renter take responsibility for taxes and maintenance and mileage, why would I as the landlord want to let you out of the agreement before the time is up? Because I'm a nice guy? No way. How about if you're renting a $1700/mo. apt from me and you agree to rent the one with a river view costing 3 grand? Maybe I'd let you out, but like business, I'm gonna get you coming and going.

What would make common sense is you have 12 mos. left, multiply your monthly payment by 12 and cut me a check, and I'll let you out. That's common sense. I think marketers see your disatisfaction as a potential for more $$$ their way so they probably have invented a way for you to get out but think you got out ok. my .02....

Getting someone to take over is the best way for your pocket.

You might get a deal from a dealer on trading it in, but remember the difference between "trade in value" and your "future lease payments" will be added to the new car loan.

If you just hand it back, they will sell it at an auction for much less than it is worth and charge you for the difference.

Prepare to take a bath regardless of what you do. If you upgrade to a new car (unlikely, since you hate your service dept) they will almost always cut a break on an existing lease.

Otherwise you can find somebody else to take over payments--naturally you'd have to supplement, since they won't want to pay it all--or you can bring it back to the stealer and ask "what do I owe you?". I would suppose it would be a few thousand, EASY.

looks like the answers have been posted.... 1 call the lease holder and get the pay off.. sell the car and pay the diff from sale price to the payoff..... 2 trade the car on something else... and pay the diff from trade allowance to payoff.... most logical is to ride out the lease and then turn the car in.... if you are going way over on miles.... buy a beater
