Why does my exhaust drone?

I have a Warpspeed ypipe w/ Magnaflow High Flow Cat. I have a custom Bpipe with an 30in glasspack(yes 30inches) and a Dynomax Super Turbo(17733). I thought the Superturbo was not suppose to drone at all. It drones from about 1500-2700rpms in 4th gear. Around 2200-2500 is the worst though.
Sadly the resonator is a louvered core(nothing else I could find), so it might be installed the wrong way. Any other reasons it might be droning?

Mine drones aswell (I have the super turbo muffler). Any muffler will drone when you put on a y-pipe (except maybe a stock one). Try wrapping the ypipe I guess.

I had a Magnaflow muffler and it was loud, so I got the SuperTurbo thinking it would get quieter but it didn't

I have virtually the same set-up, except a 27" glasspack after the cat, and a 12" in place where my cat used to be,

That drone is deep as hell and sounds like a ghetto stereo system with a lot of bass. I now regret the set-up, but am looking for ways to quiet it down ...

Don't wrap the flex section, just the y-pipe, b/c it will overheat it and cause it to fail.

The glass pack got rid of the raspiness though, thank God.

Not planning to wrap the ypipe because Kevlo911 installed it yesterday and it is not making anynoise.

SO is the muffler causing the drone? A local exhaust part distributer told me a Turbopack will make my exhaust quieter than with a Glasspack, but that is with the sacrafice of performance. The Turbopack, he says, is not a straight through design so it will decrease some performance. Honestly, if it will stop the droning I will get it. But do any of you people think a Turbopack will stop the droning?

There's not much to be gained from the cat-back on our cars anyhow, and I think the turbopack is essentially a resonator, just like the stock one.

I'm looking into that also.

You do know the Dynomax Super Turbo muffler isnt a straight through design, right? You dont really lose any power anyways. Infact youd probably lose a couple hp on the low end with a straight through design.

The drone most likely has to do with the kind of resonators you are using.

Glasspack is not the best term. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....pack+resonator

A good perferated core resonator will improve flow but I am not sure if it will help or hurt the drone. If your "glasspack" is backwards then it should help. I know magnaflow makes them. I would not recommend their mufflers if you want quiet, but their resonator and the Dynomax Superturbo should sound good together.

if you want factory quiet, put the factory cat-back back on. the ypipe is the only one giving you any real power anyways.

i dont have my factory cat-back. anyway i got turbopack put on my car. i told the guy to try two mufflers that i have (magnaflow 14829, dynomax super turbo). dynomax turbo was the loudest and raspy one and magnaflow was quiet. i like my setup now. its not loud anymore. it is lil bit louder than stock but when you crusing you cant hear the muffler at all or when you floor it all the way. just to let yall know that dynomax super turbo muffler sux ***.

I have a y-pipe but no drone... the Frankencar cat-back I have dampens the sound pretty well and there is really no audible drone in the cabin.... the b-pipe is well resonated and the muffler isn't a straight through though...

Pics here:

http://www.frankencar.com/products/5...aust/index.htm

I guess it is kinda like a stock muffler...

This makes no sense. Isnt the magnaflow a straight through muffler? If you changed out the glasspack for a decent resonator, that could be why its quiet now.

If it is quiet with the Magnaflow, it should be twice as quiet with the Dynomax...

Exactly. The Dynomax isnt a straight through, it should be quiet almost like stock. Anyone reccomend a good resonator to use?

well we tried both and result was better with magnaflow. oh yeah what i did is i took the s pipe out and told him to make me custom pipe with flange and o2 bung. took the 30" RESONATOR out and put the turbopack in the place of resonator. oh yeah i didnt feel any loss of power. guy told me at the muffler shop that you take the same cars and put the same exhaust setup they both gonna sound diff. wtf?? if that helps you understand why my didnt sound right with dynomax. oh yeah i will post the clips whenever i get my video cam back so you can hear it how it sounds.
