Problem bleeding brakes
Problem bleeding brakes
Well before anyone tells me to search...
As you can see in my other thread, I have been having some brake line issues, in short, my passenger side left line popped and I needed to replace them as well as bleed the lines. I replaced my 300zx calipers with my stockers, and I've been trying to bleed my lines with no success. The problem seems to be isolated to the wheel that the line popped on. At first I thought it may have been the master cylinder acting up so, in doing the bleeding I checked the other side (drivers side) wheel and the fluid zips out fast as lightning. I also checked the rears and they seem to be fine.
I am at a loss for what the issue could be, becuase I am getting fluid out of the front passenger one..just not holding pressure...ie pedal is soft...any ideas?

Are you bleeding with a vacuum bleeder or with a buddy?
With a buddy, have him hold pressure on the brake pedal, you release the bleeder, fluid/air comes out and while your buddy keeps the brake pedal on the floor you tighten the bleeder. At that point you can release the brake pedal.
Repeat that 10, 15 even 20 times and you should get all the air out.
If your brake line opened up, chances are that side of the master cylinder ran dry as the fluid leaked out of the system. (gravity feed) So you probably have air throughout the system, not just that line. Bleed the whole system throughly, run about a quart of fluid through it.
The master cylinder pulls fluid from 2 sections of the reserve. One section supplies the right front and left rear while the other section supplies the left front and right rear. If your right front line opened up and the master ran dry, then the left rear also has air in the line. The rear takes a long time to bleed through so pump them quite a bit.

Tom,
I tried the gravity feed thing, and I'm getting fluid out of the caliper as stated, I think I may have pumped close to a quart through it already...but I will go at it again. I was not sure if I could have blown a seal as suggested by Dubbya...
Once the rain stops, I will likely be at it again today...thanks and keep the ideas coming

Seems the master cylinder is bad. I am not surprise, during my brake upgrade to the 300zx ones, I noticed that I lost some pedal feel. Of course the cylinder if its the original has close to 180k on it.
