regrease brake parts: synthetic vs silicon ?

hey guys

right now, I'm working on my old celica ... changing front brake pads and had to swap a rotor. on both calipers, one or both pins are frozen. I was able to use penetrating oil to get them moving again, but I'd like to regrease them.

I read silicon grease ... autozone / kragen said to use synthetic.

I will be using synthetic on this car. I think silicon is for high-temp? can anyone shed light on this?

However, next week i'm going to be swapping in new pads (OEM) / rotors (slotted/zinc) all around on my maxima. I want to regrease the pins there as well.

Also, what parts should i make sure to grease other than the pins??

thanks

the only thing you should grease is the pins.

and I don't bother using anything other than plain old axle grease. make sure the rubber boots on the ends of the pins are completely sealed and don't have any cracks or tears in them. that's the biggest reason those pins get stuck- they get water sucked into them and it rusts inside, causing the pins to freeze up.
