ES motor mount inserts

Well I'm trying to get them installed but I don't think I'm asking the shops correctly on what I need them to do because none of them have any idea what I'm talking about. What did you ask for when trying to get the mount inserts installed?

You need the rubber pressed out of the mounts and poly pressed in. That's all.

i did the work myself.. the hard part is just removing the old inserts. i had to burn them out, and use an air chisel to get the metal insert out..

In looking through pictures I noticed that on the front mount it seems that the center rod is off center and the rear mount is directly in the center. On the ES inserts both the tube/rods are in the dead center of the insert. Is this normal or is one supposed to be off center?

The stock bushing that is off center is desisgned that way because the soft rubber is so squishy that the weight of the engine will center it when installed.
I had a local tuner install my ES mounts, but I remember him saying that there's a metal sleeve that must be pressed out because the stock rubber is attached to the inside of it.

I noticed that also. One thing I've been wondering is how the ES MM stays in place. It doesn't seem like it is much bigger than the stock insert and in that case it seems as if it could easily slide out.

There is a lip on each end that keeps it from sliding out. Plus, the motor mounts on the engine block cover the sides, so there's no way these can come out.

There is a lip, but that's not all--The insert itself is JUST wide enough that when it fits inside, it's in there TIGHT. Trust me, those suckers ain't going anywhere.

I used a hydraulic press to remove the insert (mangling the rubber until it came out), but I bent my front mount's shell on that. I may try burning it out when I buy a spare (I ended up buying a new OEM one to get me back on the road, so I am looking for a spare front 5spd 2000 mount if anyone has one...)

I used a dremel to get at the metal collar for the front one. The front is easy to dremel since near the bottom, the metal collar has a couple square sections exposing the outer shell. The rear mount might not be so easy, there's no break in the metal. I may wait until I have air tools and try using an air chisel to break it.

If you have an auto you need to check your rear mount. I know my friends 96 GXE that was originally auto had to use a 5spd rear sleeve since his was not the right size. Some autos will need the rear motor mount sleeve from a manual.

I can say that these things are amazing. I love them. They make my car feel a lot better.
