Repainting: Paint/Door Poppers

hey guys,
well im gonna be moving to Florida in about a month and my uncle has a paint booth there. We decided we are going to repaint my car. I think im going to repaint it black. For all you painting experts, do you recommend a certain paint? my uncle says he gets good paint but i was gonna just see what the org has to say.

While were at it i want to shave my doors. Can anyone recommend a certain kit. I dont know to much about that. Has anyone else shaved there handles? I want to get a nice kit that wont die on me.

While im painting it i think im gonna do the 97-99 conversion. Ill keep you all updated about the progress.

Thanks

Sean

We use BASF paint products at the shop.

Do yourself a favor and use a lot of FLEX in the paint you spray on the front bumper cover and even the hood, it will resist chipping much better.

A flex agent is where u it allows the paint to move around a little bit. Its mostly used for urathane kits and sometimes bumpers.

wow that is awesome looking. Didnt think of getting that creative. Well graduation come up here soon and im hoping i will be able to buy a kit and do a 97 conversion.

By moldings do you mean molding the kit? Never painted a car before but my uncle is pretty good. Hes certified and has painted my cars. The guy who owns all the grey pupon rolls royces lives right next door and is a excellent painter. I think they both will be over helping up. I figure the car will be down for 40 hrs or so. What two colors is that on your car?

Ohh BTW would u mind posting more pictures? I would love to see how it looks from the front or side on. Thanks

it will be done within the year (worst case senerio) Hopefully within 2-3 months. i really planned on shaving the door handles but if its gonna be 2 hard..? Ill be moving to Florida in about a months where i will have access to a large garage and a paint booth.

Im gonna run out to the Dupont Distrubitor and see if can look at some colors. I would really like to have the doors. I know its gonna take a little while longer but i will have another car to use intill mine is done. How hard was it for you 2 do?

its not that hard. as long as you have a welder and someone that knows the basics.i only did one off my moldings myself. i watched my body guy ( friend) do it and im pretty sure i could of did one of my door handles, but i passed. once you shave em,( when you weld, the main thing is a clean line and to make it penatrate) fill in with some body filler ( miracle wip-as he called it) and its just alot of sanding, prime, sanding. mainly just alot of work.
