the 300zx rotors need to be milled down. The calipers bolt right up to the hub

and you'll need the 30mm version calipers and not the 26mm ones

Correct.

And it really doesn't matter anyways because the entire brake pad is still touching the rotor, so braking isn't affected at all.

The extra size of the rotor is purely for looks, but like I said, it doesn't affect performance. The 300zx pads are huge compared to the maxima pads, so you're getting alot more pad contact than before.

Actually by using a larger rotor and locates the caliper out, you are gaining more torque arm force on the rotor for more braking performance vs the same setup with smaller rotors (that are even smaller by a few mm than oem). It's still an effective setup and good if you only have 16" wheels. If you have 17" wheels or larger and have wheels that already clear the 300z calipers, it's a very small feat to upgrade to the much larger 13" cobra rotor (vs the 11.x stock rotor).

As for the kit- FANTASTIC! I want to do the same thing but my darn 2001 max wheels won't clear them without spacers. grrrr.

Congrats! You might have abs but if you don't how easy is it for those wheels to lock up? (ex city and highway)

Mille Miglia EVO 5 17x8. Not currently sold anymore.

I don't have abs, and if you have a trained foot, you're not going to lock up the brakes. Slamming your foot to the floor on the other hand, will get you in trouble (with pretty much any non-abs setup).

ABS is for the untrained....

what you're seeing is the difference in the hub shape and size of the rotors. The Cobra rotor uses a much larger "hat" on the hub, so it LOOKS like there's more pad contact area on the outside of it.. that's the only difference.

Again, is this kit just for the front rotors? The pictures & information isn't very detailed in regards to whether they are front and rear.

Yes. But Matt93se sells a rear bbk using the 300z rear caliper also.

So wait, are you saying you can bolt on the 300Z calipers onto the 26mm 300Z rotors? Could you bolt them to our stock 4th gen sized rotors or Brembo blanks?

Reason I am asking is that I have the 2001 17" wheels which would not be able to fit your kit with the 2004 max rotors and 300z calipers. Would it fit if I had the 300z calipers and stock rotors or 26mm 300z rotors?

No. The 30mm and 26mm calipers need the appropiate 300z rotors.

For fitting the Z calipers using the 2001 17" wheels, it's not the rotors that matter. It's the very wide width of the caliper that creates the problem. The CALIPERS will hit the inside of the wheel spokes on the maxima wheels.

Aw, my noob eyes are beginning to see. So that's why you need spacers...

I love my 2001 17" wheels, have yet to find wheels that look as good besides the out of production MM evo 5, yet I am SOL with brake upgrades. Jeff, what are the options for largest effective rotor size and best caliper that WILL fit the front with my current wheels?

Your only chance is the Blemco bbk brackets, 24k rotors and your stock calipers. That MIGHT fit.

Or upgrade to a set of 18" 350z wheels and tires. Look alot like the 17" maxima wheels. I know a guy selling a set for $800 with 4500 miles on the oem tires. 17" Z wheels might work also. Same price with 0 miles on the tires.

Matt Blehm has a write-up for it on his website. Other than that, I don't think so.

Thanks for all the responses guys!

Unfortunately, offsets aren't the only conisideration for caliper clearance. Two wheels with the exact same offset: One clears the brakes fine, one won't even come close. Offse, spoke design etc.. are all factors. I do have a set of 98' cobra 17x8s for sale. Worn tires. $400+ shipping. Will clear the bbk with NO spacers. Hubcentric rings included. I ran these wheels/tires on my 3-gen and bbk

From the information I have gathered, each wheel weighs about 20-22lbs.

Ultra light? No. Heavier than most other aftermarket wheels? Again no. But heavier than most forged wheels though.

Well at the min, they might be around 20 lbs. But more like 20-22lbs. If they were any lighter, they would have to be forged or maybe weaker in strength?

If I sell you the rings, I won't have a prototype to show the machinist.

Okay, I took a ring to the machinist and they quoted me pricing. So yes, I'll be able to get them made! I should be able to hold Candiman's pricing also. So stay tuned! I'll get the order started today or tomorrow. Delivery is about a week to me.
