Neither did I. Drew and I went to HRP tonight, and he drove up on the scale, he weighed 3085? or 3045?(no driver). Mine weighed 2985 (no driver). I wonder how much it would weigh if I took all the dynomat out of the floors, doors, trunk?

Just thought I would start a new thread...

compact?

really? I thought the max was a "midsize" car? do they do it by only weight or also with cubic space inside or a car (ie...length and width measurements?)

I haven't weighed yet, but according to my registration, my Max is listed as weighing 3000lbs exactly. I don't know what model they are taking into consideration (GXE I assume) and I figure that's a "wet" weight. Since mine's an SE with sunroof and a powerseatt, I figure I'm about 30lbs heavier......but I've got a Y-pipe (-13 lbs) and light rims (-20lbs total).

I'd figure a "loaded" 4th gen 5 speed Max (spare, jack, full gas) is close to 3030-3080lb. When you've got a 1/4 tank of gas and no spare/jack, you've shed about 140lbs.

why do you guys care

man, why do you guys care so much, it really doesn't matter if it's 20lbs ligher or heavier, and also, you should weight yourself with the car, because that's what really matters if you care that much, so you with the bellies, start loosing weight and get in your car

j/k folks, but seriously, who cares, just drive and whip it around turns

Well, I was trying to look up the insurance info of my car once, and I finally found it, can't remember the site though, and it said the 95/96 Maxima was listed as a compact. . . After 97 I think it became midsize, but I will try and find it again and let you know.

Times? we don't run for times. Its all about the hamburgers, Gatorade, VP race fuel fumes floating ever-so-lightly over freshly sprayed VHT and smoke from some loud-assed domestic filling up the stands. THATS why I go!!

I don't care about the weight, if I did, I would drive a Honda. I would rather increase the HP, but I figured this would be a good spring-board for some senseless posts

Don...The dynamat in a max is only under the carpet and under the rear seats. There arent any in the doors...And there isnt that much, maybe 20-30 pounds. However, i have an intersting idea. Before hitting the track, start your car and take out the battery!!! Theres 40-50 pounds right there..Has anyone thought of this before?

what kinda suggestion is that, j/k. the car needs the battery even though the alternator is running the car after ignition.

I thought that the alt runs juice back into the battery, which continues to run the car...

Russ, if the car dies, it's got a major alternator problem.. that's one of the standard ways of testing the alternator.. pull the battery cables and see if the car still runs. if not, it's time for a new alt.

And no, the car doesn't run OFF the battery.. once the car is started, the alternator provides the electricity to run everything in the car. the battery is there for starting purposes only. it DOEs act like a huge line filter though.. when you step on the brakes or flip on the lights, it takes a short time before the alternator is able to step up the output, so your lights will flash or dim slightly for a sec. every time you flip a switch or step on the brakes.

You'll notice this if/when your battery is starting to go bad..

Here's what you know: there is OEM sound deadening material in some places on the Maxima.

Here's what you DON'T know: Two years ago I bought 100 lbs of Dynamat and installed it on my doors, the FULL FLOOR, trunk areas, etc....

WHy on earth would you want to add 300 pounds of dynomat to your car? Heck, why not mix up some quickcrete and fill in all the door cavities etc? Less expensive and very innovative...

gLok, how'd you make your camry do 14's? oh, and I guess that means my car is lighter 105lbs by default as I way 135lbs or so

btw, someone mentioned taking the battery outta the car. i don't think it's a good idea. the battery acts as a buffer to absorb electrical spikes and and supply power when the alternator is turning slow...
