I just spoke with somebody at Lime Rock Race track
in northwestern CT about renting the track out for a day
- not to race, but just for some track time…

This is what I found out:
- To drive on the track you need a helmet, driving suit and roll bars…
- Track Rental - $ 6,000
- Track Insurance - $2,500
- 7 corner workers [$125 each] - $875
We would also need to rent flags and radios and I don't know what…

total - $9,375 ok so call it 10k

So, for one person, this would be kind of expensive
but for a hundred people, it would only be a $100 each

I've got an old suit and helmet
[don't know if they would still be valid]
no roll cage though.

Anyway, I was wondering if we could get enough people interested/committed.
Maybe invite some Z and Altima drivers along to fill out the spots?
The more people, the less it costs each,
but the less track time you'll get
[or maybe it's just more crowded?].

One caveat:
No days are available this year
Between the BMW and other clubs and Skip Barber driving school the days are pretty much all spoken for.
We would be on a waiting list.
It isn't hopeless, but it isn't going to happen this summer either.
Gives me time to save for a roll bar…

So - who's interested?

You could enter the EMRA time trial at lime rock in the fall - helmet but no rollcage required. EMRA also has events at Watkins Glen, Rausch Creek and Pocono. See emraracing.org.

Wow cool...I will not put in a rollcage in my car, so something less strict would be nice.

hey thanks
never heard of this/them before
just went to the EMRA site
and it looks interesting
a lot of rules to wade through
I have a Hi-flow intake and a FTSB
I plan to change wheels/tires
and H&R springs and new shocks
and ss brake lines one day
Not sure what class this would put me in
anyway sounds great
Do you know what it costs?

Emra time trials are about $100. Your mods would be fine for EMRA rules - but - wheel diameter is limited to whaterver the largest stock size was - that would bump you one class. Of course, class doesn't matter at first - track time and learning are most important.

thanks

I went back to the site again and found the pricing
[duhh]
Anyway, TT are now about $115.

A lot of money in some ways
but heck, in truth, it's a bargain.

I am very interested in going to the Lime Rock event in November.
[anybody else?]

Have you ever gone to one?
Impressions?

I think it would be a blast.

And I agree -
my first few times out I'd just be looking to get a feel for it all
- timing would only be a measure to see if I improve my skills

Yes - I entered one about 15 years ago. Then I was involved in running them. I ran my first time trial at Bridgehampton (a breathtaking track) and subsequently became a hard core racer and even chairman of EMRA for a while. Lime Rock is a very difficult and subtle track, and unfortunately the day is short and entry large so track time is a little less than at Pocono, for example, but more than at Watkins Glen. Normally there are 3 20min sessions, at first you get an instructor. Then there are the timed runs at the end of the day and then trophies and beer party. At first you will probably forget to breathe, but then you get comfortable and can start to put together better laps.

Thanks for all the info.
I read Autoweek, Car & Driver, Automobile and sometimes Road & Track -
and I never heard of this [EMRA].
I am quite psyched to go.
The TT seems like the perfect introduction too.
It's a shame about Bhampton closing.
Are you still involved?
What kind of racing were you doing?
What did you race?

I haven't raced for the last three years but have kept in touch. EMRA doesn't get much press because it's strictly amateur. I used to run the entire series - sprints and enduros. We ran at Bridgehampton, New Hampshire, Watkins Glen, Pocono and Summit Point. I always ran Street Stock (like IT only EMRA had it first) and had a Datsun 1200, Toyota Corolla, FIAT Strada, Mazda 323 and last an RX7. Probably the best race was the night 4 hour enduro at Summit Point when it started to rain and then the temp dropped and the rain started to freeze, all in the pitch dark!
