It seems like every things happen to me.

Hmmm could it be me?
Well, of course first check your CV axles.
If they're ok. then you might want to have your front springs check or do it yourself. Your probably saying what the hell?!! What's spring got to do with it. Well, the first time I put my springs in I didn't notice there's a
teflon bushing or washer on the top of the strut. Nissan calls it bushing so I'll go with that. Anyways when you have lowered springs and I gues coil over ( not sure about coil overs, I don't have them )you pull the strut and replace the spring and proceed to install the strut back in.
make sure that teflon bushing isn't popped out of its place.
It happens when your either bolting up the strut or when your spring starts to put pressure toward the top of the strut. Becarefull if lining it up so it won't catch your fingers. What happens, the bushing is a 2 piece and if it pops of the center it gets pinched with the body. You can still turn, but you start to here pops when you turn or it sound like the spring is turning on the strut. I can't remember how much they are but I think they're like $10 but they're special order, at least back then at my dealer.
i had a friend that the same problem with his Max and a 200 SE-R.
I hope this helps and it 's nothing too serious.

By the way the bushing looks like plastic and I think it's grey on one side and black on the other. It'll probably have some type of white grease or some lubricant looking stuff on it.

I am having that same clunking noise when turning on my '96. I know for a fact that its the upper strut bushings. I bought the whole upper assemblies from Tire Rack. $35 each plus shipping. I shopped around, and thats the best deal anywhere. Now, if only I can find the time to put these babies in with my new struts and springs......

Nope that was the bushing.

You see every time you raise your car off the payment or high enough to remove the pressure of the spring you run the risk off the bushing poping out or falling back into place if its poped out, when you bring it back down. This is should only happen on aftermarket springs that aren't as springy, for lack of a better word. The stock springs if you ever remove them have a hell of a whole lot of tension. if your new springs go in whith out a spring compressor then they aren't as long as the originals so the top part of the strut on the inside of the wheel will move as you try to align the strut back into place.
