I know almost nothing about paint, & my 3rd gen is in serious need of a new paint job. I'm a student so budget is low. :/

How much on average does a simple glossy black job run? What type of paint should I ask for, how many coats, etc?

You get what you pay for is always the simple answer. $250 - $$$$ you choose how much paint your car is worthy of then go get a loan from the bank...

your average flat black paint job runs you about 25 bucks and a newspaper. a real paint job will run you over 2000

 

Real paint job (same color, without the interior of the doors, just the actual exterior) runs about 1800-2000 for a good one.
