Okay, two questions: (4th gen max--97)
1) I order a pcv valve from courtesy today and I looked at the 60K tuneup provided by megamax--and I see the picture for the pcv value. How do you change it exactly? I read from a post that you can get to it with a pair of needle nose pliars and then what? pull it out? is it screwed on? And how do you put it back? push it back in?

the second question: I lost one of my remotes and i finally got a chance to find a replacement on ebay--and I should be receiving it soon...and I looked at Andi's site on the reprogramming. Question I have is: when I reprogram--after sticking the key in 7 times in 10 seconds and turning it to the ACC position--do I need to reprogram the remote that currently works and then reprogram the second remote or just the second remote, since the first one already works.

thanks for the clarification, guys.

=) Brian

the PCV is popped it...so you see the hose?? slide the clamp back and pull it off the PCV. then use a long flat blade and pop off the valve off the manifold. it pops in around a rubber grommet..so just pry it out and it'll come out.

i think when u program it you have to reprogram the old currently working one too.

good luck

pcv valve was a pain to change. The hardest part was getting the hose off and on the valve. Take your time...

A stupid question, but what exactly does the PCV valve do?

pcv valve cost

I ordered my pcv valve from Courtesy yesterday. Listed for 8 and I think I paid 6.50 or something like that...it is not expensive at all. I ordered the platinium tipped plugs with the factory oil filters.

DanNY-- I read what you wrote about changing the valve. So let me understand this-- you first need to get that black plastic cover off (which is right back behind the throttle cables). After you get this black grommet off-- which COVERS the pcv valve-- you then pop the valve itself off with a knife or pull it off with a pair of pliars?
I assume then the grommet can be put back?

Is what I said here correct? by chance, does anyone have the factory manual that they can post here for the rest of us to see...

thanks.

ok

when you do the remote you have to do them at the same time cuz it changes the frequency - so you have to reprogram both at the same time

ok let's me go over this again so i don't mess u up...
the valve is 1/2 grey and 1/2 black.
one side is attached to the engine..the other is attached to a hose w/ a spring clamp on it. you squeeze the clamp to release tension and slide that back on the hose..(maybe about 1.5-2 inches).
you should be able to push off the hose off the valve. make sure you push far back enough so the entire hose is off the valve and push it aside so it doesn't go back into the valve.
what you should see is the valve (still attached to the engine) and the hose that's right next to it w/ the clamp slightly farther down the hose.
now pull the valve off the engine. the rubber grommet that's ON the engine stays. you do NOT take that part out. your only taking the valve out. i suggested a flat screwdrive and try to pry it off the grommet since it's in the grommet pretty firmly. once you have it partially off the grommet you should be able to pull it out of the engine. needle nose pliers works great in this situation. the space is very small to get to the valve. once you have it out..clean the surround area and put in new valve the same directions it was taken out. push the valve until it reaches it's base (the bigger part on the valve). once that's in you can now slide the rubber hose back on to the valve. find the spring that's still on the hose and compress it and slide it back towards the valve.
that should do it. it help if you have where the valve is and the surrounding location. i've done this a few times so i can give u a good description from memory. take a look..if your still have a prob let me know.
good luck
Dan

thanks DanNY

That was a very good description of the procedure. I actually understand much more. I am getting a good picture of what I should do exactly. When I get home later and if the part comes, I will take another look, give it a study and if I have any more questions, I will let you know.
hey, again, thanks very much for the info. I really appreciate it

Brian =)
