Is the clutch gone?

I looked over a potential car the other day, and I am pretty sure the clutch is gone.

Normally, the clutch grabs halfway of being released.

This was on a 2k2 btw.

His clutch grabbed when it was like 98% released...

I doubt it is not properly adjusted because the guy's father is a mechanic.

How much would a new clutch run? around $700 ?

disk = $70
pressure plate = $130
release bearing = $25

So about $225 plus install unless you do it yourself

From what I am describing.. it seems like there is almost no clutch at all left right?

The quickest way to test the clutch is to stop the car in an open area (parking lot with nothing around the car), put the transmission into 6th gear, and try to take off from a dead stop. A good clutch should stall the car. If you can rev the engine and get the car moving in top gear, the clutch is probably toast.
